TAXABLE VALUES SHOW
~ DECREASE IN COUNTY
According to the returns of County Assessor Henry C. Schroeder com\ CALLAHAN HYDRAUL:C IS
pleted the past week and submitted
to the board of supervisors sitting
‘tas a board of equalization, there is
approximately. half a million dollar
decrease in taxable values in Nevada county for the, concurrent year
which will doubtless mean an increase in the tax rate unless the
board c¢anfind a way to lop off
some of the budget which has been
presented by the county office of in
some other directions. The total
property value of the county is just
under ten million dollars but the
non-oprative property on which the
county cllects taxes is $6,266,395,
whereas. the past year it was”
$6,774,655. The decrease is largely
due to the NID contractors having
(no equipment in the county this
year. :
Nevada City shows a decrease
from $744,435 to $713,695.44.
Grass Valley decreased from $1,502,325 to $1,485,695. Nevada Township fell from $439,580 to $421,430.
Grass Valley Township drecreased
‘rom $1,652,155 to $1,279,250.
“yrdgeport Township increased from
$111,680 to $112,790. Washington
Township decreased from $145,550
to $130,140. Eureka Township decreased from $172,195 to $159,265
Bloomfield gained $50 from $99,815
to $99,865. Meadow Lake Township
decreased ‘from $1,172,215 to $1,139450. Little York Township deereased' from $114,365 to $114,160.
Rough and Ready Township decreased from $620,340 to $610,655.
With the revival of mining inter-’ east the figures in the next few
years should take a turn for the
petter. The removal of thousands
of dollars from the tax rolls by reason of the properties acquired by
the irrigation district will be some
years in getting back to normal.
Mrs. W. L. MeFaddei of Applegate and Mrs. Stephen Eden of Lower Lake .visited Charles Eden
recently. Their husbands attended
the celebration of the Fourth
July in Grass Valley.
W.W. Letzer, superintendent of
the Sierra Buttes mine, was a business visitor in Nevada City early
in the week.

PAD
> When Dr. Caldwell started to practice
medicine, back in 1875, the needs for @
laxative were not as great as today.
People lived normal lives, ate plain,
wholesome food, and got plenty of fresh
air. But even that early there were
drastic physics and purges for the relief
of constipation which Dr. Caldwell did
not believe. were good for human beings.
The prescription for constipation that
he used early in his practice, and which
he put in drug stores in 1892 under the
name of Dr. Caldwell’s Syrup Pepsin,
is a: liquid vegetalle remedy, intended
for women, children and elderly people,
and they need just such a mild, safe
howel stimulant.
yChis prescription has proven ‘ts worth
and is now the largest selling liquid
laxative. It has won the confidence of
people who needed it to get relief from
biliousness, flatulence, indiloss of appetite and sleep, bad
