Truly named the first lady of the air, her fame rests on far firmer footing than that of the transient newspaper celebrity. A brilliant linguist, speaking five languages fluently, and an equally brilliant student of ‘experimental chemistry, she «< made her first solo flight after only ten hours’ instruction. Within two years of the day she won her wings,.she had esnautigue Internationale, the first woman so honored. ceive the Distinguished Flying Cross, to make a transcontinential non-stop flight, to fly from Hawaii to the United States, to cross the United States in an autogiro. Within the short space of two months, she.made the fastest trans-continential flight on record and the fastest transcontinental hop _ by @ woman. D. which has been under promotion for the past year. The board of directors at a meeting held Tuesday accepted the plan and voted to hold the election om August 21. The major purpose of the plan is to reduce the’ fixed charges of the district so, As to insure its solvency indefinitely. Holders of appropixmately $8,100,000 of bonds have been asked This will make possible an immediate start for the creation of .a sinking fund. It is believed that the Modified Plan is of equal interest to poth the land owners and the bondholders and that all but a very small per cent of the bonds will be deposited for the reissuance of new bonds. Sufficient ‘of the outstanding ‘bonds have already been deposited to insure the directors that an election to decide on the acceptance of the Medified Refunding Plan is justified.
