CAMPTONVILLE HAS
LOTS OF BEACK WIDOWS
CAMPTONVILLE, _ ict 2—-Considerable comment has been -made
redently regarding the Black Widow
spider. This spider is not,a new
thing in this:section; although there
seems to be more in numbers now
than formerly. People have seen
them, and killed them, but other
than knowing it to be @ spider, had
no fear, nor paid any i a to
them,
At present there are six of these
spiders on display in the Meek Mercantile Company store; and anytime
anyone would like a live one, it could
be obtained in a very short-time, for
almost any old shed or secluded
vlace under a house harbors .one.
. These. large shiny. black spiders with
the read triangle on them © under
Part, have lived throughout this section for many years, but in as much
as nothing was ever known abou:
them, no one had fear of them.
Althotgh they are perhaps more
poisonous than a _Tattlesnake, they
do not create the excitement that the
discovery of a snake does.
Records show that there have been
many peo,.le bitten by. this spider
been discovered that the
blood of a person who recovers after
having been bitten can be used as a
serum for a victim, and this blood:
injection saves the victim’s life.
It is said that the name “Black
Widow’’ comes from the fact that the
spiders we see are females, that in
the early stage of their life they !
kill the males, hence the name.
