PacS Ol Mussolini Will Fight Mussolini is out to take a slice of Abyssinia, or perhaps to establish some sort of control over the whole country, and that is that, so far as he is co ncerned. What the rest of the world thinks about it cuts little figure. He told Captain Anthony Eden, the British master of international intrigue— sometimes known as dip consider a British gift of a slice of Ethiopian territory: told an American newspaper lomacy — that he would not even He correspondent he was going ahead on a principle of conquest long followed by all nations, the United States included. He even brushed aside the possibility he may not succeed against a million courageous, fiercely loyal Abyssinian warriors entrenched in an eenvironment understood only by themselves. There is no stopping Mussolini. What worries the world is whether this can remain an isolated conquest, or whether it will plunge all of Europe ixto the maw of war. And what worries the United States is whether this country can stay out, if Europe is plunged in. Whether or not Mussolini’s war, if it does occur, will drag Europe in depends upon various ever-shifting forces. One argument has it that while Itatian military strength is concentrated abroad, the Balkans will get out of hand, or}% Austria will fall a prey to Hitler. Should either of these things happen, war would be as good as under way. But Mussolini contends they will not happen. His argument .is that Italy has a fighting machine perfectly capable of keeping things in hand at home and abroad at the same time. By way of con-; vincing the world of this, he is planning the greatese demon: stration of military might tha extend from one end of the country to t streets with up-to-the-minute t Italy has ever fighting men, and the air with up-to-the-minute fighting machines.
