. Be that as it may. Labor, in the opinion of many, some
of whomare within its own ranks, not only has made serious
mistakes, but is in a position where it must soon decide whether it will take the road to the right or to the left.
The conservative adviser says to Labor that it is toward
of whom are within its own ranks, not only has made serious
achievement lies. It has rough spots, to be sure, for no road in
life is smooth. But sane, moderate leadership, among which
Jaw and order and regard for the rights of others control, will
. conduct you safely over those spots. Each hazard you overcome will strengthen you for the next, making your journeying smoother, thus commanding the respect and approval of
other groups in society, who, -too, must pursue their paths in

and welfare of others of your’ fellowmen, as well as the very
liberties which make it possible for you to choose the road you
~It is the opinion of many publictsts that we are perhaps
‘ too close to the present turmoil of labor and its reaction upon
society to make any accurate appraisements. The laws of social causes and effects are manifesting themselves with such'
‘increasing intensity that not even the wisest can foretell the
results. Not only are there serious issues between the ranks
_ of labor as to jurisdiction—the followers of Lewis and the followers of Green—but within each rank there is bickering and
Many keen observers of social forces hold that there must
be a halt to the present labor disturbances.
The hope of every good citizen is that Labor will purge
itself of its rash and violent elements, compose its differences, ;
‘and in all its collective bargains keep its agreements.
If this cannot be done, anything may happen to Labor as
an organization and to society. No thinking person is sure that
a fascist dictatorship will not seize power in this land,
‘though the founding fathers provided constitutional govern“ment and parliamentary procedure as the means of determining all the issues of the Nation and the states. — From the
Much anxiety is expressed among members of Congress
and other thinking citizens over the situation in which Labor
has placed itself before the public in a number of instances in
recent months. Certain groups working under the banner of
the C. I. O.appear to have made the Wagner méasure’an excuse for the use of. violence in an attempt to achieve collective bargaining and other objectives. '
It is claimed by. some of those close to John Li hecwid that
acts of violence, such as those instigated ‘during the automobile

New York.
That there has been very little
authentic informatiom handed down
through the ages regarding this famous poet and astronomer, is a regrettable fact, but Mr. Lamb has
taken what crumbs there°are and
has developed an enticing presentation. His knowledge of the history
and romance of the far east has definitely enhanced the book, and for
sheer beauty the episodes that go to
hard to beat, moreover Mr. Lamb
has treated Omar’s sensitive genius
with an equally sensitive touch.
Here we have vividly and poignantly placed before us the trials ana
triumphs of the poet of poets. Eight

To truly understand the intenstiy
