GUARANTEE FOR STATE
SACRAMENTO, Fuly 24—(UP)—
In keeping with provisions of the
congressional act governing national
banks, an attempt will be made to
amend the state banking act to pro-,
vide for the gurantee of state bank
deposits, according to Senator J. W.
McKinley, chairman of the senate
banking’ committee.
The .California Bankers association was reported working on the
proposition, although no definite proposal has been submitted yet in either the senate or assembly.
CALLS IN POLISH TO
HENS; PROVES PROPERTY
GLASGOW, Mont., July 24—-(UP) —
A brood of 19 chickens that speak
nothing but Polish are well-known to
Sheriff Al Fassett now.
Fassett was called to aid the owner
of the chickens when they turned
up missing one day. The brood was
located in the flock of a neighbor.
The neighbor denied stealing the
chickens. “If they are yours, call
them to you,”’ suggested the sheriff.
Instead of a familiar ‘‘chick,
chick,’’ usually made to attract sucii
fowls, the sheriff listened to a series of foreign noises. To his amazeulent the 19 missing chickens came
running in a group to their owner.
“I’m Polish,’’ explained the owner,
kens in that language,
they know.’’
Thoughts of prosecution were dismissed.
