How-, ever, girls preparing to put through television calls from the. privacy of their own homes must take the time to make up al-. most as painstakingly as a movie actress, or their images won't . reproduce perfectly at the other end. In spite of such minor perplexities, the miracle of tele-. vision, it has been conclusively demonstrated, is today a real-! ity. The, other day observers sat in one room of a San Fran-' cisco laboratory and watched the features of a girl in another part of the building reproduced ‘on a miniature screen. They saw her lips move and heard her voice, as a series of images was unreeled before their eyes at the rate of 343 per minute. There remains to be solved, of course, the problem of building and marketing of television receiving sets for use in. the average home. ~ Experts are divided on the question of whether present radio sets can be converted into television receptors. The measure was simply intended to substitute execution by lethal gas for execution by hanging as the death penalty in this state after August 27, but so carelessly worded was part of the bill that it seemed to make _ possible a convicted murderer's escape from death through a ‘technicality. Last week there was talk of calling a special session of the legislature to make the wording of the law conform to its intent, after the State Attorney General's office had pointed out the loophole in it. With the number of lawyers in our two houses, it is difficult to understand such slipshop workmanship.—Contributed. . : salad sTerlonfeafeeateateatesofea ofeatesteolrteateafeaecfeatesestesieafeaolesteaterfeatertenfedialeatesteateatedfeoateatestestestesfesttesteatestete from Aunt Sarah garnish with lettuce and serve with: dipped in cold water.
