The 78 mile , road connects Oroville and Quincy, . county seats of Butte and Plumas . counties and is part of the interstate route connecting with U. S. 49 at . Reno. A $7,000,000 project, the high. Way assures an ali) year passage, across a wooded mountainous country. It is the lowest altitude route ; over the northern California range, at no point exceeding 4,500 feet in elevation. Following the’ winding Feather . river, the highway shares the steep . canyon with the Western Pacific railroad. The almost perpendicular walls necessitated building the highway on the opposite side of the gorge from the railroad. McKee, Sunday. : LATE SHERMAN HECKERTO BE BURIED TUESDAY Sherman Hecker aged 71 years, passed away Sunday morning in the little home where he was born and reared in Willow Valley. He followed mining and also cultivated a nice garden about his comfortable home on his miimg property. In early days much gold was found on the surface and in little ravines on the property. Surviying him are a daughter, Mrs, Mabel Lemons, Richmond; sister, Mrs. Addie Williams, Placerville; three grand children, Miss Catherine Hecker, Raymond Hecker and William Ebaugh and a _ niece Miss Elma Hecker.
