M. J. Brock is president of the company. Tyg, shifts are at work atthe present time sinking a shaft. A good showing of free gold has been encountered in the foot wall which is dipping towards the main ledge. There is a new ten stamp mill on the property and a new seven drill air compressor. The hoist’ has been] bered rebuilt and it is in first class condition. Development work is being rushed as rapidly as possible. MRS KIMBALL RETURNS FROM MINING PROPERTY Mrs. Kitty Kimball returned to Nevada City Thursday after spending several weeks at her mining prop-. erties Reliance Placer and Quartz in the Alleghany. and Eureka Dis‘tricts. While there she supervised the completion of the assessment, work on the five claims incorporat-' ed under one head. The party was enroute to] their home in Oakland. MINING ASSOCIATION ~ BLECTS MAC BOYLE PRES. At a meeting of the directors of the Mining Association of California held last Saturday at Travelers Hotel in San Francisco Errol Mac-; Boyle, president of the Idaho Mary-; jand Mines Company was unanl‘mously elected president of the Association. Lee Rowland of Mariposa Chapter was elected first vice president. A committee was appointed to revise the by-laws for the Association to allow for the election of an, executive board who can quickly handle matters of importance with-; out calling the entire board of Di-, rectors many of whim must come from a considerable distance to _attend the meeting. A great need for a publication was expressed by all present. Negotiations are under way to' secure an organizer who will put full time in the fiéld securing members and proper support for the Association so as to place it on a firm financial basis. SCADDEN COMPLETES 200 FOOT TUNNEL’ Thomas Scadden of North Columbia was a Nevada City visitor this week. He now has a tunnel in his Oak Flat property 200 feet long. He expects to hole through to the channel within the next few weeks. He formerly had a tunnel 140 feet but found he was too high so he, abandoned it and drove the new tunnel lower down. The tunnel has been driven thru hard rock and Mr. Scaddn has been doing all the work alone. He has also just completed $500 claims belonging to the Grizzly Ridge Mining Company, Inc. The work was done on the Outlet, Mazuma, Grey Eagle, Polar Bear and Little Bear. Incidentally. Mr. Scadden is one of The Nugget’s good friends and subscribes and besides paying his subscription for the coming year to The Nugget paid for his subscription to the new California Mining Journal thereby becoming one of the first subscribers.George Erway has also done his assessment work on his Risk claim. There is a forty foot shaft and he is now working on the tunnel which is in 60 feet. GASTON MINE WILL IHIGGINS RANCH TO fr ) CALIFORNIA MINING JOURNAL ISTO BE PUBLISHED SHORTLY Within the next few. weeks another publication will . come to light in Nevada City. It will be called the . California Mining Journal and will be published by the . Nevada City Nugget Publishing Company. As the name . ‘ndicates “it will be devoted to the mining industry of . the state and last Saturday at the meeting of the directors of the Mining Association of California it received the sanction of that body and will be the official publication of that organization. START OPERATIONS: The Gaston mine, located in the Washington mining district, will goon start operations. .Theprperty is completely equipped. There is a ten stamp mill on the property at the present time but future plans call for the installation of a flotation plant if the production warrants. The property was sold to George St. Johns of Berkeley a year and a half ago by Fred Cassidy of Nevada City and Claude Ferguson. Up to January of 1929 the surface workings were all rehabilitated , the tunnel cleaned out and retimthe main tunnel which is 4700 feet long. A 1500 foot tramway was built, saw mill installed, the Gaston ditch reconditioned with 600 feet of flumes, over 2000 feet of 12-to 16 inch. pipe placed in _position for’ generating water power. They have 21600 cubic foot com-; pressor driven by a Pelton wheel, using water under'a 1172 foot head. A 70 ton mill is on the property. Two Lyner machines were used in driving an east cross cut and north . drift. WORK TO START SOON ON SUNRISE PROPERTY Joseph Sergi, owner of the rancia property and a stockholder in the Sunrise Mining and Development Company states operations will start in about two weeks at the mine. This property has been in fitiga= tion for about a year until Seattle ,interests bought out the Grass Valley mining men. The mine has been operated to @ depth of 400 Ofeet, the limit of the hoist, compressors and gasoline sur— face equipment. The company has applied for electricity in order ta operate all machinery .by power. This machinery was to have beem purchased to sink the shaft to 100@ feet when litigation started. The way-is now cleared for immediate operation. Some of the men interested are Chas. DeWhite, originator of the Sunrise Mining and Development: W. S.
