SCADDEN COMPLETES
200 FOOT TUNNEL’
Thomas Scadden of North Columbia was a Nevada City visitor this
week. He now has a tunnel in his
Oak Flat property 200 feet long. He
expects to hole through to the channel within the next few weeks.
He formerly had a tunnel 140 feet
but found he was too high so he,
abandoned it and drove the new tunnel lower down. The tunnel has been
driven thru hard rock and Mr. Scaddn has been doing all the work alone.
He has also just completed $500
claims belonging to the Grizzly
Ridge Mining Company, Inc. The
work was done on the Outlet, Mazuma, Grey Eagle, Polar Bear and
Little Bear.
Incidentally. Mr. Scadden is one
of The Nugget’s good friends and
subscribes and besides paying his
subscription for the coming year to
The Nugget paid for his subscription
to the new California Mining Journal thereby becoming one of the
first subscribers.George Erway has also done his
assessment work on his Risk claim.
There is a forty foot shaft and he
is now working on the tunnel which
is in 60 feet.

CALIFORNIA MINING JOURNAL
ISTO BE PUBLISHED SHORTLY
Within the next few. weeks another publication will .
come to light in Nevada City. It will be called the .
California Mining Journal and will be published by the .
Nevada City Nugget Publishing Company. As the name .
‘ndicates “it will be devoted to the mining industry of .
the state and last Saturday at the meeting of the directors
of the Mining Association of California it received the
sanction of that body and will be the official publication
of that organization.

The Gaston mine, located in the
Washington mining district, will

is completely equipped. There is a
ten stamp mill on the property at
the present time but future plans
call for the installation of a flotation plant if the production warrants. The property was sold to
George St. Johns of Berkeley a
year and a half ago by Fred Cassidy
of Nevada City and Claude Ferguson.
Up to January of 1929 the surface workings were all rehabilitated
, the tunnel cleaned out and retimthe main tunnel which is
4700 feet long. A 1500 foot tramway
was built, saw mill installed, the

It was at first the thought of The Nugget publishers to .
publish another special number of The Nugget as_ the .
last special is about exhausted and there is a_ steady
demand. However, upon interviewing mining machinery
men they urged that a monthly magazine be published
in the interest of the industry of the state as a whole.
There is a wide demand for such a publication. The Mining Association has long desired to havea publication

There have recently been a number of movements to
start a mining magazine of some sort so great was the
need felt but they lacked the proper support and necessary
backing. Two of these attémpted publications have given
up their idea entirely and have thrown their support to .
the California Mining Jounral. The Journal has already .
secured the services of a field representative who will
spend his time touring the state securing advertising, .
subscriptions and news items.
The new publication already has a dozen paid in .
