Saturday morning, shortly after midnight July Ist, a ma_jority of the City Counsel of Grass Valley met and elected a new set of city officials, including city clerk, city attorney, and generally attend to the municipal housekeeping. day morning bright and early sweeping and flushing the streets, preparatory to presenting to the world a spotless town bank, in all probability, by the old city employes ‘against the coming of the new city employes anxious to take office. And through the hills reverberates the chuckles of the old-timers of those robust days of yore. A municipal quarrel of course is always more or less deplorable, but if it gives everybody a laugh along and beyond the Mother Lode, it has its vaues. A good stand-up alnd finish fight at the polls, with honest straight from the shoulder punches, or post election differences that rouse to action, defensive and offensive, indicate a live hustling city. When we consider some cities, populous, wealthy and altogether Babylonian in their grandeur, yet sunk so deep in corruption that Hercules himself could not drag them out, we are deeply content with those that can and do occasionally put on a good municipal fight. By CHRISTIAN ANDERSEN Personally I did not favor either Sharkey or the elephantine Carnera. It does not matter who won the so called fight, for the so-called championship of the world, because ‘in any case nothing has been proven except that the American sporting public is easy to free from _ its money. Sharkey can be said to have some brains which he knows how to use. Carnera probably has some of the same grey matter but when it comes to the figuring his manager does that for him and draws a fat percentage of the earnings for making the Arrangements. We have had in America.a fair crop of prize fighters, most of them endowed ‘with fairly well developed mentalities. The ones who have finally found themselves without followers should have discovered that lack of brains was the reason, but having none of course they could not make this discovery. On the road to Alleghany at an elevaiton of about 300 feet above sea level there is a swamp. What drew my attention to it is the fact that it is, not a hollow but on the contrary: it is in itself a small hillock otherwise it is the same as any other swamp. Surely nature \has some peculiar tricks. There is a racket which should be exposed, viz. a clique of men organ, ize a company for the purpose of LEGAL NOTICE ORDINANCE NO. 130 An ordinance regulating the production, handling, processing, labeling, distribution, sale and offering . for sale of market milk and market cream in the County of Nevada, providing for the issuance and revocation of permits to engage in the business producing, distributing and sale of market milk and market cream, fixing definitions and standards therefor, authorizing the County Health Officer to enforce the provisions of this ordinance and to establish a County Milk Inspection Service therefor, fixing permit and inspection fees, and providing for a penalty, for the violation of this ordinance.
