Of course it passed quietly in Freneh Corral, with the few who rmained at home enjoying ice cream and chicken dinner. We can not help conrasting the ‘‘almos solitude” we migh call it of today’s ‘4th’ with the ‘4th’ of long ago, in he ‘*mining days’’, when “Old Glory’? was floating at different points and was in evidence in decoration from one end of the town. to the other, and the old cannon owned by the late by every ideas of a Chas. Bradford, one of our very patriotic citizens, . was hauled out and at daybreak pealed forth its answer to the neighboring owns of Nevada City and Grass Valley. Those’ were the days of joyous and noisy pariotism. All day the pop of ,the fire cracker, the youngsters delight was heard on every hand. (Little burnt fingers made no difference.) They tried it again. With the passwell add the passing of the youngster, for usually they too are a thing of the past, and quiet reigns in that one time noisy quarter. Well, we must le memory deal with “ye oldn days”, and we'll go on-with the news of oday. In last week’s items we omitted mention of a visit from one of the old residents of the Ridge. Mrs. J. Reardon and_ her son, Ben, visited old friends during the week. Mrs. Reardon spent most of her girlhood and married life in on the Ridge. She now lives with with onc of her daughters, Mrs. Lynch of Antioch, % H. Musfield of San ‘Juan. was a Friday Visitor. Miss Theresa O’Conner returned to her home in Birchville, Saturday. She visited with relatives in San Francisco and Sacramento after the adjournment of Grand Parlor session at Santa Cruz. She reports a mos enjoyable session of Grand Parlor. A. Browning ani C. Clerkin made a business trip to Bloody Run Sunday. FE. Collins of Sweetland was busy cutting hay in this viciuity during the week. f Mrs. H. Thomas ana were Sunday visitors. : Miss Frances Moulton who came from Sacramento to spend the week end with her parents, returned to that place Sunday evening. She was accompanied by her sister, Louise, who will visit her until Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. Adam Labour and children and her mother, Mrs. K. Broyles, and sister,’ Miss Alpha, were Sunday visitors. Miss Laura Broyles and Kinny were also Sunday _ visitors. The family now resides in Sacramento, but delight in making frequent visits to the old home in French Corral. gn joint celebration of the birthdays of Mrs. E. Sutherland June 28th and Mrs. EB.
