har THE NEVADA CITY N SISKIYOU COUNTY A crew of 90 men is at work at the Know Nothing mine in the Forks of Salmon district. Major W. H. Cross is managihg owner. The Guggenheim interests hive. sold their holdings, in the’ Blue Ledge copper claims in the Siskiyou mountains near the Oregon line. This property has 15 miles of tunnels with a large tonnage of ore blocked out. Poor transportation has been a drawback. A railroad ‘from Yreka is projected to reach the pronerty. J. F. Reddy of, Medford, Oregon, is interested. The Comstock mine on Humbug creek near Yreka has'been taken under option by the Heinz Gilbert . Corporation and development work is’ contemplated. The mine has_ past production records. A steam shovel has been installed . to handle the gravel at the Herndon . mine near Gottville to replace the; former dragline method which was, said to be expensive to operate. The. deeper ground is said to carry excellent values. eS Se Benjamin Barhma of San Francis. co who had concluded arrangementswith George Milne of Fort Jones for . the purchase of the Golden Eagle mine and had paid a deposit—of $10,000, dropped dead. . Harry M. and Nelsine Thompson have sold five claims in the Liberty district to the Westco Gold Mining Company, a Nevada concern. Thompson also assigned his interest in 13. other nearby claims to the company. W. J. and Mabel C. Roberts have commenced oction to quiet title to four mining claims in the Liberty district. LAKE COUNTY An 1120 acre’ tract near Lower Lake has been taken’ over by the Clear Lake Gem Mining Company which proposes to mine thysts and sapphires. The company has been permitted to capitalize on a $200,000 basis, with $50,000 worth of stock for public sale and $150,000 to be given to J. F. QGarrette for assignment of his lease on the property. Garrette is a Woodland business man. MARIPOSA COUNTY New machinery-has been installed at the Marble Springs mine in the Bull creek section to replace that burned two years ago. Property has a past production of $2,000,000. The Bondurant mine at Bull creek has been taken over by a new company which is operating on a good scale. MODOC COUNTY The old dumps of the Hayden Hill mine near Adin have been taken over by Brainerd Brother s of Sacramento who propose to about 200,000 tons work of material. Property produced much high grade . ore some years ago. Two years will . be consumed in the process and it is estimated that the dump can be worked for an average cost of $2.50 per ton. EL DORADO COUNTY Location of the old Gross ore shoot assures the erection of a mill on the Van Hooker property. J. A. Flink is in charge of operations. Large development work is under Way at the Pyramid mine in the Rescue section. George Wingfield of Nevada has been experting the Sliger mine near Spanish Dry Diggings. Ray Teybaugh of Greenwood has purchased the Golden Ege quartz property from Sam Bishop. The Dolandson mine near Greentown is employing a smal! crew on development work. Following unwatering of the French mine workings in the Greenwood section, sinking of the shaft is under way by J. M. Berry. Sam Collins is said~to be taking g0od ore from the Grog Pond mine. asus Sse i eatrenan Charles A. City at 7 a, CALAVERAS COUNTY The Vallecito Western mine, a promising gravel property, has been takne over by the United States Smelting Refining and Mining interests according to advices. The yroperty was opened up five years ago and has a good production record. The Commodore mine near San Andreas is reported sold to the Best and Belcher Mining Company of Virginia City. Property has been developed to a depth of 300 feet but has been closed for a number of years, The new company proposes to sink to greater depth. The shaft at the Osborne mine is being sunk several hundred _ feet deeper by the Belmont Metals. Company, Ine., which holds the property under bond from the Osborne estate. The property is said to have produced a number of rich pockets in past years. A hoist’ and compressor have been installed and a 20 stamp miil is contemplated. The Gwin mine was-reopened last week by interests headed by Jeffrey Schweitzer of San Francisco who have bonded the property for $55,000. The company will install machinery and prospose to sink a new vertical shaft. The property which has a good producion record was first opened about 60 years ago, In 1872 it was reopened by Albert M, Gwin, Jr., son of California’s first senator. J. P. Fuzere while prospecting on the Crossett ranch recently ran into a pocket which is said o have yielded $700. It was a literal grass root find. AMADOR COUNTY A strike of highgrade ore is reported in a cross cut at the Carrie mine about twenty feet deeper. Property is in the Pioneer district. The new dredger’ built by the Lancha Plana Gold Dredging Company to work the former Lancha Plana townsite isto be put in oper,ation this month. The ground is virgin and said to be rich. .
