TENNIS CHAMPS CROWNED The spring girls’ tennis tournament came to an end this week and resulted in the same people’ winning as in the fall tournaments. Ruth Godfrey was named winner of the girls’ singles after defeating Vella Flindt, 6-0. Margaret Stevens, and Ruth Curnow became girls’ doubles champions when they defeated Mary Lou Draper and Alice Graham 5-4. The fall winners were tthe same as above mentioned. The following girls participated in the tournament, Girls singles, Ruth Godfrey, Dot Hoff, Margaret Stevens, Jane Bennett, Betsy Bennett, Jean Martz, Alice Graham, Catherine Stephens, Laurel Biggs, Ruth Curnow, Mary Lou Draper, Adele Joerschke, Vella Flindt. zxeorgia Glennon, Margaret Gibbs, and Madge Pianezzi. Girls doubles, Margaret Gibbs and Jasie Bennet, Jean Martz and Ruth Godfrey. John Harding, retiring student body president, has always ‘been a leader in his class, student body and the organizations. In his junior year he was junior class president. Ruth Curnow, ‘vice president, has faithfully filled the office for two terms. which is the first time a student has done this. The office of treasurer this year has been filled by Fred Garrison, who will also be missed. The old officers will hand over their gavels and books to the new officers sometime this week. CAMPTONVILLE NOW HAS “TALKIES” EVERY WEEK. CAMPTONVILLE, June 10.—For ‘the first time in the history of the talking motion pictures were displayed at the auditorium of the local: Masonic hall last Tuesday. and the educational department of the Civilian Conservation Corps. Late films are being shown and the equipment, that of a portable nature, works very well in the local hall and this is the first talking picture ever to be shown here. CAMPTONVILLE, June 10.—The Womens Club of Camptonville held a surprise meeting at the home of Mrs. J. W. Morehead.Thursday evening, the members dropping in unannounced, conducting the regular business imeeting at which time various matters were taken up, including the continuation of the public card parties for the benefit of the club, After the ‘business was over freshments were served, being furnished by Mrs. Constance Pfiffer, Misses Lydia O. CAMPTONVILLE, June 11.—wWilTRUCK JAMS MAN’S ARM Antone Giani and sons, Pete and Virgil, were delivering a large truck load of gravel to the garage adjoining Gene’s Cafe on lower Broad street at noon today when Virgil suffered a severely crushed left arm. He was giving directions to his brother in guiding the truck backward in order to miss two porch pillars, resting his arm on a garage support and was so interested he forgot to remove it. Galini did not lose his head when the heavy truck jammed his arm and called to this brother. to drive forward and release him.
