FRIDAY, JUNE 12, 1931 THE NEVADA CITY NUGGET, CALIFORNIA
ASSEMBLYMAN. SEAWELL
EXPLAINS HIS BILLS
(By Jerrold L. Seawell)
‘This is the third of a series of
‘articles of explanation of bills introduced by Assemblyman -Seawell and
passing both Houses of the Legislature.
Assembly Bill No. 1298 provides
an appropriation of $55,000.00 for
‘the purpose of bringing to California
in the spring of 1932 the winners
“of the Skiing and Ice Skating events
‘to be held at Lake Placid, New York
as the Winter Sports program in
connection with the Olympic Games
‘to he held in Los Angeles in 1932.)
The $55,000.00 hereby appropriat-_
‘ed does not come out of the General
Fund of the State Treasury but is a
part of the premium derived from!
“the sale of the Bond Issue of One!
Million dollars voted by the people
in. 1928 to defray the expenses of
the Olympic Games to be held in
‘Los Angeles.
This bill takes the $55,000.00 out
of the Olympiad fund and places it
‘in ~he General Fund of the State
“under the control of the Department
‘appoint a committee to carry en:
the program proposed and spend the!
money under the supervision of the
Department. of Finasce.
At is proposed to hold the Skiing
events in the Tahoe-Truckee Area
and the Ice Skating events in the
Yosemite Valley. It has been estimated by expefts that in bringing the
Champions of the Skiing events held
at Lake Placid to California immedjately' following the contsets, will
‘mean that approximately 50,000 tourists will visit the Tahoe-Truckee area
to watch the Skiing experts perform
in exhibition matches.
This would be of great value to
Nevada and Placer Counties from
an advertising viewpoint and would
indicate to the world that California
is a winter playground as well as
@ summer recreational paradise. The
fact that we were able to obtain this
appropriation without one: cent of
cost to the tax payer, and the advertising value to this district that will
be derived therefrom could not be
had by expending twice the amount
‘of money to obtain like results, and
is of unlimited value to the people of
Nevada and Placer Counties.
Governor Rolph signed this bill
we are assured that the Olympic
Winter Events will be held as per
the terms of the bill.

NEW BODY WILL~ WORK OUT BOND —
REFUND PROGRAM
With the signing by Gov. Rolph
of the Cassidy bill providing for
a new Bond Commission to help irrigation districts faced with the necessity of refunding their bonds, the
problems of the Oakdale Irrigation
District will probably be at once
transferred to a hew body, in order
that some gort of program can be
worked out to take care of the $80,
000 bonds which will fall due July 1.
The new commission will succeed
the Bond Certification Commission
but will have enlarged powers, intended to help the situation inthe
Oakdale district.
It will also be an official body
which can be substituted for the
Bankers’ Bondholders’ Committee recently organized by the San F'rancisco and Oakland bankers. The later
committee still has not decided upon
a report. a
Director A. C. Pendergrass conferred with some of the members of
the committee yesterday, endeavoring
to hurry their report. The committee
is considering three plans: first the
one worked out by the board, second
the one which provided for exclusion
of some of the land in the district,
but was found conld not be accompublished, and a third plan which
would extend the payments for the
refunding bonds over a period of
fifty years instead of. forty.—Oandale Leader.

and Fresh Pineapple Pudding. At 4 o’clock, while you are
miles away, the electricity automatically curns on and keeps
the oven at an ever 400 degrees until 5:30, when the current
turns off. The stored heart in the insulated oven keeps the
