DEMPSEY RANCH
HOUSE IN ASHES
The home on ithe Dempsey ranch
near Smartville, owned by Coughlan Brothers, of Columbia Hill, was
burned to the ground Friday and two
tons of hay were also destroyed be-fore the fire was extinguished. The
fire started in the attic and when discovered was too far along to be put
out with facilities at hand. One of
the men on the ranch ran into the .
house and called a state fire guard)
stationed at Smartville and he rush-'.
ed to the blaze but could only assist,
in keeping the fire from spreading
to the nearby hay fields where hay
was shocked or to other buildings on signs for sale at the Nugget Office.

All the tontents of the house were
burned except two or three beds and
clothes on the men’s backs, At the!

were James Coughlan, and nephew, .
Charles Goughlan, Walter Scadden, .
