pounds for each man, woman and

California division of fruit products
most candies, commercial or homemade, contain little fruit. Many candies, they maintain, are improved
by the addition of fruit and several .
excellent candies consisting entirely
or principally of fruit can be made.
Consequently, they have prepared
Agricultural Extension Service Circular 20, The Home Preparation of
Fruit Candy, for free distribution. It
!may be obtained from the College of
Agriculttire at Berkeley, or from any
farm advisor. It contains many recipes which are intended for use in

PASSES ON IN SACTO.
James Alfred Taylor, for many
years a resident of Sierra and Nevada counties, died in Sacramento,
Tuesday, June 7, after a long illness. He was born in St. Helena,
California, June 25, 1854: George
F. Taylor and Ross L. Taylor of
Downieville and Dr. Robert L. Taylor of San Anselmo are surviving
brothers of deceased.
Funeral services were conducted
by Red Jacket: Tribe No. 28, Order
of Redmen on Thursday, June 9 at
Sacramento. af

IDAHO-MARYLAND
The Idaho-Maryland mines nave
about the same payroll in the mines
but there are 34 employed on the
Loma Rica ranches. The .Forbestown
mines of the company have 126 men
working. Since schools closed May
31 the company has adopted the policy of employing school boys and
they are called apprentice laborers.
