June 19— Less than 150 feet of drifting remains to be done by the Central Euthis town, to connect the 2,400-foot level of its main or Central Eureka shaft with the 2,300-foot level of its Old Eureka shaft, located 1,500 feet apprt. This connecting drift, it is officially estimated, should be cém. pletea within the current month. It is being advanced through solid greenstone about midway between two parallel ledges, situated about 70 feet apart and known as the main or East vein and the Weat vein—the principal segments of the Mother Lode vein system. It is the belief of many mining men familiar with local conditions that the completion of the drift will prove an epochal event in the history of the Central Eureka company In addition to effecting a monthly foperating saving of $2,000 and facilitating the mining and further exploration of the Old Eureka and Central Eureka orebodies, it, when completed will provide a-safety exit in hard rock from both mines and eliminate maintenance costs. for timber and labor in easing pressure of the floor and roof had the working-been extended along eithervein. For a distance of 100 feet north of this raise new stopes are being opened up from which is being extracted about 50 per cent of the ore being sent to the company’s 400stamp mill.
