PLENTY OF MONEY GIANNINI SAYS FOR SOUND LOANS Survey of the administration’s en. tire monetary and banking set up as Sinnock and son, Bob, Mrs. Katzer. authorized yesterday by the senate . -pnursday at the Nevada Theatre, she . was warmly endorsed here today by ,L., M. Giannini, president of Bank lof America. “A real inquiry into the credit facilities actually available to all kinds of business will be an eye-opener to the general public, who appear to have been misled”™as to the advisability of such facilities No new banking organizations are needed at this time. Existing institutions are willing and anxious to advance operating funds to sound borrowers. It is the borrowers who are scarce. “As for venture capital, there is an abundance of that, but the owners lack confidence in the immediate future because of continuing atRestore that confidence, and I am satisfied there would soon be an out pouring of capital for. new enterprises and expansion that would launch us on a new and thrilling upsurge of business activity and employment,’’ Giannni declared. At the same time; he urged that the survey extend ‘to overlapping government agencies in the field of banking. Particularly, he thought, serious study should be given to proposals which would change the functions of the Comptroller of the Currency, or even abolish the office, and the importance of establishing that office, which is the oldest. financial administrative body in the government on an independent basis. SPRAY MACHINE HERE Agricultural Commissioner L. G, Lageson urges everyone with elm trees to get in touch with his office that the trees may be sprayéd for elm beetle. The spray’ machine will be here only a day or so. The new outfit is doing fine work. BANNER POST CARD PARTY Banner Mt. Post, V. F. Among the more intriguing cine-. ma metamorphoses of the past year is the current modernization of Miss Bette Davis. After almost two years of being hidden away behind vards of petticoats and barricades of corset stays, Miss Davis’ figure is being emancipated to the comparatively revealing freedom of modern gowns. Her personality is also being freed from the conventional-imposed shackles = of Civil War and Gay Nineties periods. In short, the heroine of ‘‘Jezebel’’ and ‘‘the Sisters’’ is once more an up to the year and minute girl. In “Dark Victory,’’ her latest Warner Bros. picture, which opens next comes to the screen as a 1939 model heiress. Orry-Kelly, the fashion designer who handled the exterior decoration details of the modernization, equipped Miss Davis with some eighteen gorgeous outfits. They run the style gamut from informal sports ' costumes to formal evening gowns. There’s also a little item of a $25,1000 sable coat which goes with one of the more elaborate evening ensembles. Casey Robinson, who wrote the , screen ‘play version of the New York . stage production by George Brew‘er, Jr., and Bertram Bloch, contributed bright, modern dialogue and up to date situations for the beautiful but ill fated young heiress, Art director Robert Haas built her an expensive but tasteful modern home and put the today touch to her surroundings. The rest, Miss Davis attended to. : ROBSON LANDS MUCH WANTED FUGITIVE Kansas officers are expected tomorrow to take Hobart Hazen, alias’ Donald Carson back to face murder and robbery charges if Coffeyville, Kansas. Hazen was convicted on vagrancy charges several days ago and given a sixty day floater. He begged permission to remain four days longer and in that time Police Garfield Robson had a wire ‘from Washington, D. C., criminal identification bureau, where he had sent Hazen’s finger prints, asking him to hold the man. VIRGINIA CITY'S DAY AT TREASURE ISLAND, JUNE 25 Virginia City folks, their friends and neighbors from points throughout the State of Nevada will take over on Treasure Island Sunday, June 25, for a celebration entirely fitting for this. historic area where . . history was made in the bonanza days of mining. The old ‘“‘Sazerac Club’? famous Liars’ Organization that added much ‘glowing color to the tales of early days in Virginia City, will be another event of the day, and a meeting of “E Clampus Vitus’’ unique mining country organization will also be held. Reminiscent of early days will be the musical program to be offered in which pioneer day songs and melodies will be featured.
