STATEFAIRTO ‘SET NEW MARK IN RACE PRIZES SACRAMENTO, June 24. — California’s 83-year-old State Fair is being groomed to break even more records in 1937 than the recordshattering last year’s fair. Robert Muckler of, Hollywood, the new secretarymanager, has surveyed the prospects and declares every department is prepared to excel. Entries for the anual race classic include outstanding favorite horses from widely known tracks. Purses of more than $40,000-are the greatest in the fair’s history. A current hit from the New York Hippodrome, Lotti@ Mayer’s Disappearing Water Ballet, has been obtained for the ‘night show and will leave for London after filling the fair engagements. Arrangements are being made for outstanding agricultural and livestock displays. As a part of this program, Muckler declared to agri“California produces, what no other state can. This algne is sufficient reason to build a greater state fair.’’ In line with this thought, Muckler believes that the fair soon can be placed on the standard of a world’s fair. After considerable study, the song, “Tt Love You California’ has ‘been selected as the theme of the 1937 fair. _ Much work has een done to provide grounds improvements, greater beauty, additional benches, new comfort stations, and the planting of full grown trees. The fair days are Saptember 5 to 12. The California fair is the second largest state fair in America. This story was read by someone in the southland and Wednesday Warren received a letter from George Gorham of Alhambra, owner of the bird. The letter states that the bird artived back home on May 20. It had been started in a race from Fresno on April 11 and evidently became lost and considerable out of course to get in the orthern part of the state. The lettering on the leg was Au-35-158p which meant American Union, 35 being the year the bird was hatched, the 158 being the birds number, P meaning Pasadena club of which the owner is a member. On the other leg it had a ruwbber band which is the counter mark or race band used to check the bird upon return from the race. CAMPTONVILLE, June 24. — Ranger Frank W. Meggers, Assistant Ralph L.
