Harley M. “Leste, Jr. } Where are the heads of the bigzer business houses in town, when Chamber of Commerce meetings are called? Are they too busy to look after their own welfare? The best thing that could harpen to Nevada City would be for business to reeciprocate with a little time and enerey, far the efforts which a little nucleus of enthusiasts,.centered around the President and Secretay, carry on. Sure, everyone chips in with dmes. Our secretary sees to that. But with money ag cheap as it is thest days, juet exactly how much can we expect in improvement for twelve dollars a year? Think it over. How much can twelve dollars buy you in any other line? Community progress forces and at the same time . and achievement are not on sale at a bargain counter: For the amount of co-operation and work that have been contributed by the town, the results that have come out of our chamber have been mgiht satisfactory. (Business men have even said, “‘“Aw, they don’t do much at the Chamber of Commerée.’’ Next time we hear that, let’s reply, “What do you mean, “they”? You don’t do.much. Where were you at the last meeting? You working hard on any committees ?’’ (NOTE: Tuesday, March 14, the chamber meets-at 12:15 at lunch at the National Hotel. A vitally important topic, PARKING METERS, will be discussed. If«you've got any interest, one way or the other——better be there. Better be ther anyhow) -. We can dream, can’t we. . se 5 Speaking of youth recreation. Forming a sensible program must be complex. The boys and girls who go for such a program are just the ones it are the hardest. to: interest. One who attends youth recreation meetings gets-the idea that thé subject is a merry-go-round. This slightly sour analysis: does not apply to the handful of workers who are actually doing somethiig about the situation. Furthermore,,as Del Powell, the Graces Valley credit man, explained to me the other day, everything has to go through the TALK stage. Bill Esterly offers an original solution to the slash menace, He suggests building a pulp mill hereabouts to -put all that. waste to economic use. Bill points out that there’s a terrific newsprint shortage so that the product of a pulp mill could be assured an eager market. There you are, some of ou lumbermen who are nervously counting the months or years of Nevada osteend lumber future.
