She received many beautiful gifts. Games were the diversion of the evening. Decorations were in iouae with Easter, a yellow annd lavender color scheme being carried out on the table and in the cosy rooms Lovely spring flowers and evergreens were also used in the decorations. Those present were, Mrs Omer Tonella, Mrs. White, Mrs. Ward, Mrs. Bragg, Lillian Gillespie, Clara Phelan, Alice Weldon, Mildred Tobiassen,Mildred Phelan, Jessie CosDorothy Lewis, Clara Phelan, Agnes Hosken, Tillie Weiss and honored guest, Mary HutBinkday Party ‘for 2-year-old Darlene Gates Mr. and Mrs. Robert Gates of this city entertained dast Saturdar, March sixth, in honor of the second birthday of their little daughter, Darlene Gates. _ Thirty five children and adults were invited to enjoy the delightful time, several hours being spent in games of all sorts. A pink color scheme and large birthday cake decorated in pink, soms added charm to the happy time. Dainty refreshments were served at. a late hour. TED JANISS OPENS NEW “MY PLACE” SAT. NIGHT Several important events, both national and international are scheduled to take place this year. The coronation of King George VI, the wedding of the Duke of Windsor and the opening of the new Golden Gate Bridge; but of greater interest to Nevada City residents is the grand opening next Saturday, March 13, of “My Place’ in a new location just across the street from the present site. The proprietor Ted Janiss has spared no expense in making the new “My Place’ as attractive and inviting as possible and it will be a bright spot in town; a place where
you can take your wife, sister or girl friend. The genial Ted and his equal ly genial wife, Lorraine will act as host and hostess on Saturday night and a hearty welcome is assured all who attend the grand opening. In conjunction with the new “My Place’ is a very excellent restaurani, where you will find Irene smilingly ready to serve you with delightful dishes. CITY HALL Scaffolding was removed from the front of the-new city hall on Broad Street yesterday morning. The raistions can be seen plainly on the white surface. Considerable work remains to complete the interior of the building, Leonard Martin, of Grass/ the} building, CLIFF DEBERRY OPENS STORE IN Announcing the opening of Cliff DeBerry if not the largest of its kind in Nevada ladies award; . county. Mr. DeBerry will offer the ' buyer of household electric, gas and other equipment a very large selection in refrigerators, ironers, washing machines, space heaters, water heaters, and all kinds of cooking ranges. George Crawford, well known in ‘both Nevada City and Grass Valley, where Mr. DeBerry last year opened a similar store on Main street, will be in charge of the Nevada City store. The Daniels building which Mr. DeBerry has taken over_has been repainted inside and out. The ceiling of the big store oom has been repapered, modern: lighting fixtures installed,.and the walls have been specially treated to give the salesroom a most pleasing effect. A big neon sign will presently be hung over the entrance of the building. Illustrating the volume of business which Mr. DeBerry’s experience warrants, he is expecting within the next day or two a carload of Frigidatre refrigerators, which. include eighteen different 1937 models, embodying in their appointments and conveniences the last word in household refrigeration. Aside from the wide and complete range of the ‘best household appliances on the market today, Mr. DeBerry does an extensive business in installing refrigeration for meat shops, restaurants, groceries, liquor establishments, dairies and florists. He has the agency for some of the most modern of these cold or cooling plants as well as for home and business air conditioning. Dersonal Mr. and Mrs. George Brailey are rapidly clearing . up the yard and grounds of the old Cohn property on Grove street, which they purchased several months ago. Trees have been grubbed out and brush cut away. The house will be remodeled and renovated. It has been re-shingled in the last few weeks. Judge Walter L. Mobley returned yesterday afternoon from a several days trip to San Francisco. He went down to benefit his health and seemed to be much improved from a recent attack of rheumatism.
