LOCAL SCHOOL
A full week of conservation activities will-come to a close with tomorrow’s school day at the ‘Nevada
City Elementary School. The Conservation Week arrangements were
made by Mr. Tuxford and Miss
Ramm.
At a general assembly Tuesday
motion pictures and = slides were
shown by the Tahoe Forest and talks
given by Dick Rafferty and Ellwood
H. Stone.
Yesterday was yard cleanup day.
The fifth and sixth grade _ pupils
cleared the yards and surrounding
areas of paper and litter; the seventh
grade planted creeper vines along
the fence and the eighth grade pupils cleared the yard of oversized
rocks.
Miss Ramm’s' room presented a
conservation program as today’s
feature of Conservation Week. Tomorrow a public tree planting ceremony will be held. s
School Chorus Active—The school
chorus has had one of its best seasons yet, having made 5 public appearances this» year. They have apyoeared at: Sacramento Principal’s
Association, Christmas Caroling, P. T.
A., Elks Defense Program, and B. P.
W. C. at Grass Valley last weekend.
Class Dancing—-The Elementary
P. T. A. ladies announce that their
project of having the 8th grade
dance and wunderstand the _ social
grades that go with a dance is-coming along much better than anticipated. Mrs. Gwinn, Mrs. Jones, and
Mrs. McLaughlin are running the
weekly dance schedule.
School Attendance—Cecil Klee,
vice-principal of the elementary
school announces that the school at-.
tendance is about normal for this,
time of the year. There have been.
whooping cough and measles last .
month, The eighth grade won the;
monthly rating with 96 per cent.
Basketball Schedule Underway—The basketball league is well underway at the elementary school with
the Devil Cats in the lead. They have
won 5 games and lost none. Walter
Hawkins is ‘high point man.
Poster ‘Contest — Many pupils of
the elementary school have entered
the Forest Service Poster contest for
the city schools. The winner will have
a trip thrugh the Tahoe Forest this
summer, There will also be second
awards and honorable mentions,

Grant plays Miss Hepburn’s ex-husband, who turns up when she is
about to be wedded again. Miss Hepburn is the girl who demands perfection in a husband-and has _ to
learn that it can’t be had. She played the role for fifty two solid laugh
weeks on Broadway. Stewart is seen
as a keyhole magazine reporter, sent
to cover the wedding, who also falls
in love with the girl. Every line of
dialogue is a funny-bone tickler,
with all three sharing the amusing
situations as Grant tries to win Miss
(Hepburn back, while Stewart finds
himself in the middle, Played against

society life, the action comedy was
directed by George Cuker.
SKI CLUB WILL MEET AT
NATIONAL HOTEL
TOMORROW NIGHT
Dwight Steele. president of the
Nevada City Ski Club, urges a large
attendance at the meeting which will
be held tomorrow night at the National Hotel, Ski photos will be
shown as well as snow sports conditions and other matters discussed.

Conservation in ‘Nevada County
was the topic of Supervisor Guerdon
Ellis’ address at the meéting of the
“Women’s Civic Club’ here Tuesday
at the Elementary School Auditorium.
The Girl Scouts’ of this city presented a short program for the entertainment of the Civic Club members.

funeral services were held today at
the Holmes ‘Funeral Home here with

Taken Irto Custody
A suspect in the kidnaping in Sacramento Tuesday of H. W. Hosmer,
San Francisco salesman, was apprehended at Norden today and this afternoon was being questioned in the
California Highway Patrol office in
Hills Flat.
~ The suspect was. taken into custody while purchasing groceries at
the Norden store. Hosmer’s car was
found near Truckee this morning.
Hosmer told Sacramento police he
was robbed of $25 and his automobile taken away from him after he
was forced to drive two men for
hours around Sacramento.
