This is extraordinary, ‘but it is excelled by Placer, where it is said there is, near Michigan Bluff, a thrifty and productive tree growing at an elevation of 2600 feet. None of the fruit from. that tree is shown, however,. There are also fresh grapes, pears, apples, all ‘kinds of nuts, persimmons, etc., which show. that there is not one of the pro. ducts of the wide: range open to the farmers of this State which cannot be successfully raised in ‘Nevada county. The diversity of climate in’ that locality is most marvelous, as may be seen by the fact that while the semi-tropical fruits grow in profusion about Nevada City, one has to travel but a short distance before a section is Daly Trac TUESDAY, DEC. 21, 1896. Wannathake’s truck team while running about Mr. Wannamake’s yard Sunday afternoon fell down and broke one of its hind legs about twenty ihches above the hoof. It was found necessary to kill the animal. Wannamake paid $200 for it, and valued it at much more than that sum. THE GREAT FLOOD. ‘The Voss Railroad. A Page from the History ofMaryse-ville’s Misfortunes. The Marysville Democrat of week before last had the following account of a well-remembered episode in the history of that unfortunately situated town: ‘*To-day we celebrate the 25th anniversary of the big flood of 1861, which came ata time when this city had a population of from 10,000 to 12,000 people, and when it was in its most prosperous condition. The citizens, after the flood, commencéd to build small levees in different parts of our town. Mining at that time had commenced on the flats. The first flood filled up the channels, and the second in January brought all the slickens down.
