7 i ae FRIDAY, MARCH 24, 1939. —_—X—X—X—X—_eeee EDWARD PAGE RITES TODAY AT 2 0°CLOCK Funeral services will be held at the Indiana Ranch cemetery under the direction of the Holmes Funeral "Home this afternoon at 2 o’clock for the'late Edward Page. Deceased was a native of Indiana Ranch near Dobbins, Yuba county. He passed away Wednesday at the age of 75 years, after a short illness. For fifty years deceased had been a miner though of late years much of his time was spent in hunting and fishing. ' He is survived by a sister, Mrs. Luise Harrison, of Dobbins, a niece, Mrs. Frank Harding, of Dobbins, and a. nephew, A. M. Holmes of Nevada City. WRONG SIDE OF ROAD CAMPTONVILLE, March 23.— . Dan S. Taylor, who was arrested a . few days ago by Traffic Officer. A. J. Ponta appeared in the local justice court Tuesday pleaded guilty for driving on the left-hand side of the . highway without due caution and was j assessed a fine of $15 by Judge A. M. Clevelanid. COMMUNITY CALENDAR The Nevada City Chamber of Commerce is starting a community calendar to be of use to the whole community. When a date is wanted for some entertainment it will be possible to call the chamber and find if there is anything for that date. The clubs and organizations will give dates of meeting to the chamber for the calendar. 2 NEVADA ST A representative of the DuPont Powder interests was in the Alpha Store in Nevada City Tuesday and stated his company is building an eight million dollar plant to manuature a newly discovered thread. This thread will be sold to stockgng manufacturers with a six months »Suarantee of no runs, no holes. They will retail at 75 or 80 cents per pair. The thread will have a glossy sheen fully as bright as the present silk stockings. This invention will produce work for 1,000 people in the ‘eight million dollar plant. He is safety first Dorsanal Judge Raglan Tuttle, peal at Sacramento, made a visit to Nevada City yesterday. John Williams of Marysville was a Nevada City visitor yesterday. Mrs. U. M. Lotz and sister. in law, Miss Grace Lotz, are spending a few days in Sacramento. Miss Lotz entered a hospital yesterday for surgery. Mrs. Lydia Gleason, teacher in the Blue Tent school, resumed her duties Monday after a severe sick spell last week which prevented her conducting classes for two or three days. W. G. Sweeney and son of San Jose will arrive today to spend the week end with Mr. Sweeneys parents, Mr. and (Mrs. C. G. Sweeney of High street. Mr. and Mrs. J, M. Kuseff left this week for a short visit with Mr. Kuseff’s parents in Fresno. Mr. Kuseff expects at any time to be transferfe to the regional office of the Na. tional Forest .in San. Francisco. He ;has been employed with the Tahoe . National Forest for some time. They . will be missed bby local friends whom they ‘have made in their stay here. . Both of them have been active in , local civic and social affairs. . Albert ‘Porter wore a straw hat Tuesday, March 21. This is the third ‘year Mr. Porter has the honor of being first man to so herald spring. Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Mooers and children of Berkeley are visiting Mrs. Mooers parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Larsen. Mr. Mooers suffered a severe attack of flu and is now reengineer of the Industrial Indemnity Insurance company and works out of the San Francisco office. His field is the Mother Lode district. C. E. Dimmen, owner of the Sierra ‘hotel on Spring street, is enlarging his building by the addition: of two bed rooms and large living room for his family living quarters. A check up revealed the following facts: Number one aged 43 years was from Tennessee and had resided in California 14 years; number two 53 years of age from Ohio and in California 30 years; number three Georgia, in this state 11 years; while number four 37 years of age was from Indiana and had been in California 12 years. These men were simply picked up off the streets to keep the disgrace from the public places. Chief of Police Robson said very few local men are ever found to be in such a , condition, nearly all of them coming from a distance. There has been an unusual number of these men picked up in the last few months. AFTER MOUNTAIN LION State Lion.-Hunter Charles Ledshaw spent three days the past week end in the Liberty Hill-Zeibright area hunting for a mountain lion. He tracked the creature but the report came to him a little late as he was about three days late in picking up the trail. The soft deep snow hindered the traveling of the: lion, which had killed many deer in the district. FISHING OUT OF SEASON—$25 Bill LaMar, of the fish and game commission, arrested two men in the Truckee district Saturday for trout fishing out of season. They were brought into the justice court at Truckee and fined $25 each. ‘The men did not have any trout in their possession at time of arrest. Mrs. C.C. Skewes, Sr., is quite ill ‘at her home in Grass Valley. She has “een confined to her bed for about ten days. Mrs. Skewes’ late husband was in general manager of the street car line between Nevada City and Grass Valley.
