Tetanus I do not know which. These shots were all given by apprentices ‘in the hospital corps and they fre. quently broke needles off in our arms /and had to jab one poor fellow five times before finding the vein to get the ‘blood. (time out for lunch) waiting to get into the store-, room where the clothes were issued. Friday we got our hair cut short and were given a little drilling, Saturday morning we had captains’ inspection and the afternoon off which’ means a breather to get things straightened went to church. It is compu'‘sory, and after church we had Sunday dinner which was very good, chicken, and the rest of the day off until 6:50 when I went to some entertainment at the auditorium then to a smovrer outside where I caught a cold and 30 have been feeling a iittle low today but I am sure I will be alright. I im-. agine it sounds better over the a‘r} than it really is here. Today we had feet_are sure tired. The work here is. i and we spend hany hours each day . just waiting and of course we are on /our feet most of the time and there . is an awful lot of walking because . Place and you know the} it is a large government doesn’t approve of its enlisted men hopping in a car-to go However the messengbicycles and to get around on. This is really an immense plant, . Our first three weeks are spent in; the detention unit and maybe more, if we dont know our stuff by then. . Just like school, you are dropped back to a company and stay there until you do} and there are no liberties until-you . get out of detention. Do you know the difference between leave and liberty? We do not get any leave any-. unless some-' more due to the war, thing comes up or we get back from an active cruise, but from the training.station we get liberties or anywhere from 4 to 14 hours but are limited to San. Diego, on leave youl have several days and can take a trip. My chances of getting home in the near future are slim. I found out today that I may not branch of the service I signed wp forbecause what I was not told in San Francisco was that J was just expressing a preferen'ce and the choice is made from competition examinations of which about ten to 25% pass and not ail of those are accepted.
