The above quotation is from the brilliant pen of
Dr. Phillip M. Lovell, one of the most famous physicians in western America. It appears in his Los Angeles Times article on “The Care of the Body,” under

Of Ore Worth $400,000
The Nevada City Chamber of Commerece room and window, through
the efforts of Secretary W. H. Griffith, present an attractive appearance
with splendid ore specimens. petrified wood, old time relies and new
and old pictures.
In the large front windows are
several old mining scenes, hydraulicking’ operations, views of Lake
Vera, Bowman dam and many other
beautiful scenes.
One picture that attracted special
attention is that of 52 sacks of ore
from the Sixteen To One mine at
Alleghany. It is stated that E. H.
Wilson is the owner and the sacks
contain ore to the value of $400,000. The view taken in the old
Citizens Bank of Nevada City shows
Ed Morgan president of the bank
and Mr. Bailey as watchman.
This valuable shipment of ore was
taken out in 1909 and brought down
from the mine at Alleghany under
heavy escort and placed under
guards and stored in the old Citizens Bank vault. This lot of ore
was the forerunner of developments
in the Sixteen To One mine, which
