MONDAY, MARCH 4, 1929 ——— GOYNES CLIMB OUT OF CELLAR CHAMPIONSHIP By taking three games Thursday night from the league leading Celios, the Goynes managed t climb out of the cellar in the Elk: bowling tournament and the _Scheemers by dropping four point to the fast coming Nickiess cutfi: slipped into the basement. The Kopp and D. Richards aggregations divided the two points and are third and fourth place. The Goynes seem to have shaken off their lethargy at last and are bowling in good form. The Celios did not show much in their first me s and the’ Boilermakers romped away with them in easy fashion. It was one of the first nights that the Goynes have had their full team together and it hac its effect. Short handed tams do no make good bowling. . The bowling of the past week did not show any outstanding work. There was but one double century rolled and not over three strikes in a row was registered by any ‘one. aay 1 by keeping up his good securely in second individuals standings. fel n the There are now seven bowlers in the 150 class which shows that the tournament work is having good etfect in bringing upthe young bowlers -into strike and spare makers. Curnow. is still lading. in the spare department having thrown second balis that did proper exe;ution. Tamblyn comes in second place with 79 while other good spare makers are P. Carr 78, Bigelow with 75, Nickless 75, Fouyer 6&, Jackson 65, Breese 65, Fortier 65 ,Penrose 63, and _ Leiter ‘THE NUGGET INDOOR SPORT COLUM 84] 61.) Strike making seems to be the hard . job there being but three over the half century mark. Tamblyn is in second place with 59 and Curnow in third with 55. There is but three weeks to go to complete the second tournament. On January 1, 1928, the Deminjon of Canada had~ 1,265,869 telephones.
