There having recently appeared in the local ‘columns of the Sacramento dailies what purported to be an expose of the alleged frauds Ifeeil as I am to introduce him here on Friday and Saturday oi tion is due, The articles referred to were in both instances written by those who had not witnessed’ Goheen’s experiments but quoted their authority to be the reputed “‘*Pais’’ of Gokeen. In the articies referred to the ‘‘Pals’’ claims to have been IN with Goheen, submitted to his experiments for a few bits, and that ior submitting to the fire test they were to receive six bits extra. ‘hese ‘‘Pals,’? Kelley and Welsh, demanded of Goheen ten ur twenty doilars each for having been experimented with and said if he jonas pay them such sums they-would expose him 4s a fraud. As there was — NOTHING TO EXPOSE They were advised to proceed and prove the truth of their aileged claims to trickery by repeating the experiments. ‘hey curried out their threats by detailing to the reporters the above assertions, but it 18, needless to say thatnone ol the experiments have been duplicated: In order to satisfy myseli as tothe genuineness ot Master Gohven’s imesmeric power, at my request, there were-presentat the otives of Clinton & White Doctors tyrrell, rdiner and W. Lhe cataleptic condition was afcerward shown, and at the close of the experiments this question was asked : “Dr. xyrrell, ara you THOROUGHLY SATISFIED fhat there was no resort to trickery and that the subject was not ina normal condition ?’”’? The answeremphatically given in the Voctor’s own words was, “I am, thoroughly.’ Dr. Briggs’ reply was “ Yes sir,’? and Dr. Gardner’s “There was no humbug about that; it was the square business.’’ fnis testimony is against that ol Kelley and Welsh, written by reporters who bad not had ‘‘idle time to witness the experiments.”’ f , . dcles have appeared and that they can not but have crected a cercain distrust, . make the following offer as a guarantee ol merit which can not but be accepted by any (air person : ; Those present at the Theatre on Friday night to select a COMMITTEE OF FIVE,Such_ gentlemen as they shall deem most competent to~ detert . mine such matters, to occupy the stage with Master Goheen, where every facility will be afforded them .or ooservation and investigation. {t they report that Master Gooeen’s experiments are a fraud, every person present is respectiuliy requested to call at the box office, which will remain open tili che close of the entertainment and bave his MONEY REFUNDED. g I can offer no more. The unfortunate man exclaimed ‘‘Oh!’”’ and sank, crushed beneath the great weight. He uttered no further sound and gave no signs of life. An. examination disclosed no other injuries than a broken leg and bruised shoulder, and the :doctor says death was caused by the shock to the nervous system. Richards fas been in poor health for many months, having been afflicted with lung troubles and general internal derangements, and was consequently unable to survive a severe shock. Deceased was a native of Cornwall, aged about 38 years, and has no relatives in this country. He wasa member of the Ancient Order of Foresters. Description of a New but Productive Quart«x Mine. The San Juan Times gives an interesting descrfption of the Delhi quartz mine, from which we make the following extracts. The hi is situated at the mouth of Grizziy Canyon where it empties into the Middle Yuba river, and at_ari altitude of 3,000 feet ubove the level of the sea. It is seven miles northwest of Columbia Hill, midway from. which place is the Star sawmill which is principally run to make lumber for use in the Delhi. Several quartz claims are just before reaching the Velhi, some of them promising quite rich. At the Delni all is activity, and on: nearing the mill one is reminded of entering a town, the houses, some ten in number, standing out in bold relief from the almost perpendicular mountain side; giving quite a respectable appearance. ‘Ihe mill 18 situated in the ravine, about midway from the top of the mouhtain to the fiver below, and is built after the shed style, having one continuous root about seventy feet long. ‘Phe anill consists of a rock-breaker, eight’ stamps and four concentrators, all of which are run by a Pelton wheel and a thirty inch stream of water whith is carried down the mountain side in a large pipe. Beside running the mill this water runs into the tunnels and furnishes two air blasts. fhe mill has a capacity of. crushing twenty-four tons per day, and al an average cost—mining included—of $1 5U pér ton., ‘he ore now taken from the main tunnel is $14 rock with frequent rich assays. /‘The main tuanel, which enters the mountain about 50 fee: above, the mill and runs in a southerly direction, is now in about 1,000 feet and is prospecting well. ‘Chree hundred feet above this, tunnel is another which runs parallel with the lower one for several hundred feet, and one hundred feet above this is still another, which terminates by a shatt that leads through both the lower tunnels, and is used for lowering timbers and ore trom the upper to the lower tunnels. ‘There is no noisting of ore at this mine, as it drops irom one tunnel to another ati itis on a level with the miil. Five hundred feet below the mill another tunnel is being run in a southerly direction which is calculated to tap the lode on the north side of the mountain. This tunnel is now in about 500 feet and the lode may be struck now at any time.’ Should the Jedge in this tunnel when struck come up to the expectations of the company, thefuture plan of operation will be plain. It is then proposed to build amiil at the foot of the (unnel in quest.on and near the evel of the wiiddie Yuba river. the number of stamps will be increased by a dozen or more, and reduction works putin to work the sutphurets, of which there are some 150 tons stored at the miil and which are valued at $200 per ton. ‘This plan will admit of the working of the mine in all directions and through all the tunnels, as the ore will urop from the highest to the lowest and then will be ona level with the mill. In this case some $60,000 will be expended in new machinery and _ buildings. ‘The mine is now employing about twenty men and is paying a handsome dividend-on the capital invested. ne thousand feet west of the Delfi another claim is being opened with fair prospects. Chis claim is known as, the **i’uzzler,”’ OWing, perhaps.to the fact that the owners do not know what to make of it. The tunnel was run on a level withthe Delhi tunnel and in the same direction. {he ledge was struck but a few ieet from the surface, and follows on ahalf pitch in an: easterly direction. The lodes of the Delhi and all other claims in that region run north and south, but this one runs east and west, and owing to its dip it is difficult to make any prediction as to its continuation. About 90 tons of rock taken. from this mine, most of which was rim rock, was crushed at the Delhi last week simply as a prospect, and was found to average $6 per ton in free gold, with a large and rich percentage of . sulpburets. There are. a half dozen or more ledges ‘being developed south of the Delhi mine, allof which are promising well. — sFrom the mildest ailment, of the stomach to the Deadliest Epidemic Fever, Dr. Richmond’s Samaritan Nervine is conquering maladies which have defied the Faculty, while Dyspepsia, Gout, Rheumatism, Urinary Complaints, Bilousness, Nervous Disabilities, and all disorders_not organic, are obliterated by this matchless Nerve Tonic and Alterative. Humphreys, manager for Leonard Goheen,.the young mesmerist who is billed to appear at the Theatre in this city on Friday] and Saturday evenings text, publishes today acard in which he makes a proposition relative to testing the genuineness of Goheen’s alleged powers, No offer could be fairer than the one he advances, and its character indicates that Goheen can do all that is claimed for him, the so-called exposure in Sacramento to the contrary notwithstanding. Under all the circumstances, it is a foregone conclusion that there will be a good-sized audience at thie Theatre Friday night. . s — ome For Sixty Days. The trial of Billy Montgomery on the charge of.being a common drunkard and a vagrant took vlace before a jury in Justice Wadsworth’s court Monday’ evening. E. H.
