Now it strikes that. the prospector who finds gold in paying quantities doesn’t need a bounty. The gold itself will be reward aplenty for him, just as the lure of gold is in itself enough to keep him prospecting as long as he can finance himself. More to the point, we'd say, would be some method, if one could be devised, for financing worthy prospectors in their quest for treasure.
