Both proponents and opponents of the mat-;
ter of vital interest to all was e be) discussed, the petition to annex Oakland School District at Gold F te high school disErect. After hearing all the arguments pro con, supervisors adepted a resolution incorporating the Oakland school district with that of the Nevada City high school district. This wili not affect the Oakland school buildings and—property nor} its status. as an elementary school. LEGAL STATUS EXPLAINED Mr. Charles W. 3ursch of the schoo! planning division of the State Department of Education was present to explain the legal status of the petition filed with the Supervisors. Clarence Watters of Gold Flat was the first speaker-on behalf ofthe delegation. Mayor Bennetts followed Mr. Waters presentation of the composite views as far as he could ascertain them, taxpayers and others of Gold Flat. Mayor Bennets referred to the action of the Grand Jury, of which he was foreman, in indorsing the pian of annexation as a_ matter of tax economy. The third matter sented to Chas. W. board izing ofthe for elémentary districts, of French Corral, Birchville, Sweetland and North San Juan. RURAL ATTENDANCE It was stated to Mr. Bursch that the school building of each school are quite near the county road and that only a couple or three miles separates each district from the other and that the attendance registration of one district is but 7 pupils; the attendance of the other two is 13 respectively, While the fourth school shows an attendance of 14 pupils. This is the average attendance. It was deemed possible by consolidation, to hav ebut two teachers assemble the scholars of the present four districts in one building or to use two of the present buildings, with one teacher in each building in which school house the children of two of the present districts would assenrble. This would eliminate the eost of paying salary to so many teachers. Mr. Burch approved the plan tentatively but advised that he would have to become familiar with the topography of the school district and have a concensus of the opinion of the district taxpayers thereof before any action could be approved by him. Members of the board concurred in fhis opinion. BLUE TENT ACTION RESCINDED At the conclusion of the hearing of the various views of the opponents and the opponents of the petition to annex Oakland district to Nevada City high school district the members of ‘the board of supervis“ors asked Mr. Bursch _fo give them his views on the recent action of the board in annexing the Blue Tent school district to the local high sehool district. This procedure was merely formal as it had been previously decided under California school laws that an error had -been which was preBursch by the 6S (See SE eS Bahra le made by the board in its previous ’ I’. This matter was then clearly presented to the board in a.speech made by Kenneth M.
