TMURSDAY, DEC. 23, 1886. ANCHOR IT, For several years past there has been growing up among the people of the State a belief that it __will be in the public interest to permanently establish the Supreme Court at the city of Sacramento. The Legislature about to "meet should enact a bill to this effect. In all other States the Supreme Court sits at the capitol, instead of swinging around the circle circus fashion as it has so long done here in California. Our Judges will do more work when all live at the same place and within easy access of each other at all times. Rooms are provided for them in the capitol building, and the State Library is there handy -. forthe useof lawyers. Numerous " gmall lawyers at San Francisco “take frivolous cases to the Supreme Court which would. not reach the court ut Sacramento. ‘lonce a resident of these diggings, and while here had instilled into his then inexperienced and trusting nature that abhorrence for politics and disregard for fame which is one of the many commendable qualities common to this climate. But Mr. Mackay has-been away from here a long time, and has been exposed to all sorts of essociations since he left. He. must be more than human if he has withstood the evil influences of contact with that part of the world one of his kind meets in the State of Nevada or the city of San Francisco. SE NTR Tue Los Angeles Times says the attempt to develop an interest in southern California ‘‘was made in the Los Angeles newspapers five years ago this month, and for three years it was a’ very discouraging undertaking; but the opening of the fourth year brought forth reeults that were never even dreamed of. And since that time Los Angeles has more than doubled in population, and.is now increasing at the rate of several thousand a month. The Times wishes its Positive Fact.—Ne renee g has ever met with such general approval as the National Horse Liniment. Wasminaton, Dec. 20th.—The Baltimore Sun says: ‘‘Probably the most ogee py declination of itical honor is instanced x is eae of John W. Mackay. A private letter received from Nevada says that Mr.’ Mackay, who is, a stanch Republican, was recently tendered, in a written communication, signed by every member of the Nevada Legislature, Democrats as well as Republicans @ unanimous election as United States Senator, to succeed Mr. Fair, whose term expires March 4th next. Mr. Mackay declined with thanks, saying he had no ambition for public life, as his whole time was occupied with his private affairs.” While some truths are stranger than fiction, many things that are intended to pass curzent as truths are found upon investigation to have no foundation in fact.
