The council has as its purpose the mutual development of all the coun‘ties fronting on ‘bay tidewater, on the theory that “what helps one, helps all.’’ Every question affecting the region as a whole or any of its 71 communities will be the councils’ business, its officers say. With Francis V. Keesling of San Francisco at its head, the council already is functioning trough committees on each of which all counties have representation. The tommittes include industrial, development, aviation, foreign trade, legislation, transportation, agriculture, the highway and public works, manpower and labor relations, health, housing, schools, publicity and cultural activities. At~ ex-} tremely high altitudes the air will . be as cold as 75 degrees below zero. [a The air is whipped by the impeller to . a combustion chamber, where fuel, . . in usually kerosene, ‘burns fiercely. This causes the air to expand and; increases its velocity. The air and . gases then pass through a blazing) hot turbine wheel, which is connec:ed by shaft with the impeller. The blast then passes out the jet-exhaust r at the rear tip of the plane, giving the drive or forward thrust. This reactive thrust, which drives the Shooting. Star and other jet planes forward, is so simple that it it sometimes is hard to understand. Keep Red Cross at his side! + GIVE NOW! This new GE Jet makes virtually no vibration lessening fatigue for the pilot. It is simple to maintain,} ~ having few movable parts. Pilots of ? a P-80 hear no noise from the jet in flight. The rumbling roar from}. it passes out the rear. Another outstanding performance characteristic of the P-80 is its high altitude marteuverability. The -GE Jet functions powerfully and smoothly at extremely high altitudes. Due to less air drag on the plane, the jet uses-much less-fuel at high altitude than. it does going at low altitudes. at the same speed Another advantage of this new super jet engine is that it requires no warm up. It develops more than enough pawer for a take off in less than a minute. * This new high powered GEJet was developed at River Works of General Blectric, Lynn, Mass., where the first jet engine for the ‘AAF was produced in the United States from original designg developed ‘by the British. AVERY PHILLIPS IN HAWAII Mrs. Clara Phillips received a letter from her son, Avery Phillips stating he had arrived safely February 24 in the Hawaiian Islands, his letter carrying a Honolulu postmark.’ Avery signed up as an electricians helper, with the federal government for work at a U.S. air base at Pearl Harbor. The spirit is more important than the stomach, and that bell which the Fascists took away from Adano was our spirit.” The town got its bell.
