In some places the tax has been exploited until the total revenue it yie!ds has declined, since people decided simply to get along with ‘ess gasoline rather than pay an exhorbitant price. In several states it has mounted to 100 percent, rendering motoring virtually a luxury, for the wealthy only. One death blow has been struck.
