Temperature high as 82° in one section. : Stockmen are moving cattle and sheep to the upper country. Wm. Walsh of Smartsville passed through with a drove of cattle Friday. W. P. lerkin took some of his cattle up the country Tuesday. J. Hartley of Smartsville pased through Monday with a drove of over 1500 sheep which he was taking to a range near Shady Creek. We see many autos passing these days with people unknown to us. Our good roads bring visitors. Columbia Parlor, No. 70 N. D. G. W. held a meeting the afternoon of May 10th. At this time, they eleced as. delegates to the coming session of Grand Parlor, Miss Theresa O’Conner of Birchville. Mrs. Chas. Buhl and children of Brown’s Valley visited the Clerkin family, Friday, Saturday and Sunday Mrs. Buhl and Miss Millie Clerkin made a visit to Grass Valley Saturday. Rev. Fr. O’Rielly held early service in the church at Birchville Saturday morning. This was special service to enable members’ to fulfill . their Easter obligation. Miss Theresa O’Conner and brother, M. O’Conner, made a trip to Nevada City Saturday. Earl Chatty of San Francisco was a visitor Saturday and Sunday. His wife and children are visiting at the home of Mrs. Chatty’s parents, Mr.vand Mrs. J. W. Culver: Miss Louise Moulton and Miss B. McMinn went to Grass Valley Saturday to ‘meet Miss’ Frances Moulton, who came from Sacrameno to spend the week’s end at home. Sunday was Mother’s Day and the mothers of this place were all kindly remembered by visits or letters and presents from children and friends. This beautiful custom will ever be a sweet memorial to our be‘oved and martyred president, Wm. McKinley. But who could ever really forget mother. The very word itself has a soothing influence. The Browning family spent Sunday with ‘Grandma Browning”’ of Nevada City. Supervisor Joseph Frank of Rough and Ready was a Sunday visitor. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Shurtleff of Nevada City were Sunday visitors. Mrs. Shrutleff was born in French Corral, and it wag her home during ill her younger years. Her parents, the late Charlie Smith and wife, now deceased kept the Grade House fo1 many years. Mr. and Mrs. Benton Wilcoxon of the Drum Power house, spent Sunlay with relativesin French Corral. Mr. Wilcoxon has for many years been an employee of the P. G. & E. holding several important positions for that company. Miss Frances Moulton returned tc Sacramento Sunday evening. He: parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Moulton, and sister, Louise, accompanying her as far as Grass Valley. Mrs. A. Browning and Miss Clerkin made a trip to Pike City — slay. W. E. Moulton made a_ trip tc North Bloomfield early Monday a m. to take his daughter, Louise back for her school work. E. S. Durfee of Gridley was 2 Tuesday visitor. R. Kirkwood of Alleghany visited his mother Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. W. EB. Williams of San Francisco and their daughter, Mrs. Edna Collins, Mrs. Rose Williams and Mrs. J. B. Allen ot Grass Valley, sisters of Mr. Wil‘lums formed an auto party that visited this place Tuesday. All but Mrs. Collins were old time residents of French Corral. They spent a happy hour at the school where Mrs. il sieSchwartz, a niece of Mr. Wiliams teaches. °°Mr. Williams was a pupil of the French Coral school fifty years ago, and with pleasure he entertained the pupils -with recitaions and songs of the olden days. During this time. they made a trip to Alleghany, North Bloomfield, and Snow Tent. The) are friends of the Clerkin family and Miss Millie accompanied them on heirouting trips. W. King and W. Granholm, who 1ave been engaged in winter mining ere left for the summer, this week Mr. and Mrs. Ludy and children ot San Francisco, who have been so journing here for the past week, left for their home this morning. Mrs. Ludy is a daughter of the late Jim Dillon and was a resident of French Corral in her early life. Death seems to be choosing from the residents of the San Juan Ridge very often. We are sorry to record the death of Clyde Wodell of Sacramento, who was a native of San Juan and spent nearly all his life on. the Ridge. .
