ae a3 % The Nugget Is California’s Leading Mining Weekly evada City Nu VOL. VI, No. 28 The GOLD Center NEVADA CITY, CALIFORNIA The County Seat Paper FRIDAY, MAY. 20, 1932 built in Nevada City. 0 HYDRAULIC OPERATIONS ARE TO BE RESUMED A change in the rate for mine tailings stofage in the Bullards Bar reservoir, recently announced by the Pacific Gas & Electric company, is expected to renew hydraulicking for gold in Sierra county. This change reduces charges from three to Awe cents per cubie yard. The present Buliards Bar Pee ment was built jointly by the Yuba Development company after a small reservoir at the same site had been filled with tailings and was no longer of srevice to the Yuba company in its mining operations. The new reservoir provides 40,000,000 cubic yards of storage space for mining debris as well as water for hydro-electricpower generation. The Yuba company sold its interest in the dam and reesrvior to the power company. It is expected that mining operations will be resumed at Gibsonville and Howland Flat, as well as mines in the vicinity of La Porte, Queen City and Port Wine. Operations are probable also at Poverty Hill and on the Scales properties. Dance at ie ee There will be a good dance at Alleghany Saturday night with eats and everything. Mobley’s Melody Masters of Nevada City will furnish jail when the body was found, on a tire stealing charge. He made a complete confession to Sheriff George R. Carter and Deputy District Attorney R. Tharp. His claim was that his father attacked him with a rifle and he shot in self defense. NOTED WOMAN PASSES Mrs. Abbe Chase Wright, aged 88 years, passed away in Grass Valley last Friday. She was the daughter of Dr. George Chase, pioneer physician P. Chase, secretary of the treasury in Lincoln’s cabinet. She was born in Vermont in 1854 and followed her father, a ’49er, to Galifornia in _the—’60s.-Mrs. Wright has lived in Grass Valley since 1868 Her husband, the late Gilman Wright pased away in 1895. Mrs. Wright was a devout Christian and had read the Bible through before she was six years of age. She met Lincoln in his first campaign for the presidency. She leaves no known relatives. Kindly neighbors gave her .such care as she needed. (). WENDELL PARSONS DEAD Wendell Parsons, 19-year-old son of Marry Parsons and the late Mrs. Margaret Parsons, died in Oroville Wednesday, after an illness of over a year. The funeral will be held this (Friday) afternoon at 2 o’clock from the Holmes funeral home, with the Rev. Charles Washburn etn the music. ing. of Dawnieville and niece of Salmonsoon be under way for such disposal. Jxperienced and successful mining men from all over the world have been almost unanimous in their belief that this Grant property is one of the greatest undeveloped mining areas now in existence inCaiifornia. There are approximately 80 individual mines on the grant that have been worked profitably at one time or another. Of all of these there are but two or three upon which there is more than prospect holes. The Miariposa mine which is 1600 feet deep produced over $300,000 during the-time it was last operated. Its-previous record was in-the—millions. The Princeton mine is credited with five or six million dollars output and numerous others have produced in large and _e small amounts, Someone has suggested a subdivision of the grant in the hopes that people of different desries may be brought into the county. There are thousands of acres of grazing land thousands of beautiful summer home locations and garden _ spots, and hundreds and hundreds of small mines and small farms that many local people and many people from other sections would like to own. The owners desire to work and co-operate with the people of Mariposa county. It stacks up about like this: An optimist has no money, and a pessimist won’t lend you any. The saying is that heaven will protect the working girl ,but who will protect the guy she is working? Mrs. Lizzie Goodrich, 71, and a native of Nevada City passed away in San Franciseo last Friday. She 1s survived by two sons, Charles and Frank McClarren and her husband, Egbert Goodrich. Burial. took place Tuesday in a Nevada City cemetery. The funeral was under the direction of the Holmes Funeral Home. She was of a sunny disposition and the many friends she visited here from time to time will learn of her pas-} sing with sorrow. ‘ GRANITEVILLE ROAD OPEN The auto stage recently made the trip to Graniteville, the first trip since the snows fell last winter. The mail was ger to that city by sleigh i and ski rigérs for several months, over as hi as nine feet of snow at times. The road from Graniteville to Bowman is sfill closed. There are about six or seven feet of snow at the summit of the divide between Graniteville and the lake. 0.
