The board took under advisement complaints of improper and unethical practices by the W. R. Jefford firm. A. M. Kelleher, whose small estate was held to have been administered unsatisfactorily by Coroner Jefford through the deceased’s former wife, Mrs. Florence West of Tonopah, Nevada, and Tom Launier, whose personal possessions, including a new leather jacket and shirt were unaccounted for after his death in a cabin near Grass Valley. Jefford denied any wrong doing. Reeently he asked the supervisors to accept hhis resignation as coroner but the supervisors did not act on the matter. Those called for Monday’s hearing were: A. Locatelli of Chicago Park, a farmer, by whom Tosci was employed; C. H. Barker, a real estate man; Rev. Chas. Washburn of the Episcopal Church, and Fred Bitney. It was not decided att Monday's meeting whether or not there will ibe a formal hearing before the board. J. Ray Keaton, of San Rafael, president of the board refused ‘to reveal the identity of the complaintant when asked to do so by Jefford, OP fe. and TSOM Frank Chapman left yesterday for San Francisco to attend the Golden Gate bay bridge fiesta. He was particularly anxious to be there for pedestrian day so as to walk across the bridge. Mrs. BE. S. Boyd and-son, Joseph, of Sacramento will spend the Memorial*holiday in Nevada City with Mrs. Boyd’s daughter, Mrs. Brian Krough and family. : Miss Louise Schreiber came up from San Francisco early this week to remiain until.June ‘third when her parents, (Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Schreiber, and sister Miss Elinore Schreiber, leave for a several months trip in Europe. slipped and fell down the back porch. Miss Ruth Curnow, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Horace Curnow of this city, and house guest, Miss Margaret Gibbs, accompanied Thomas Arden, Bee correspondent and O. D. ‘Woodman, both of this city, to North San Juan Saturday. Mr. Arden took pietures of the two young ladies in the Scotch broom which is at its height in beauty now. Their pictures appeared in the Sacramento Bee this week, F. E. Darke, nephew of John W. Darke, was a visitor in Nevada City yesterday. Darke was formerly pubfisher of a newspaper in Salinas, but now resides in San Luis .Obispo. He is delighted with Nevada City and its scenic beauty. Mrs. P. S. Marris of Forest was a Nevada City visitor Wednesday spending a short time with her daughter, Mrs. Al Williams in this city: : : Mrs. Joe Demeter, nee Betty Gaylord, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Rothe, dispatching officer of the Forest Service headquarter here has been promoted to the position of law enforcement officer of the Plumas Natonal forest with headquarters in Quincy. Sunshine Circle of the Ladies Aid Society of the Methodist church served dainty refreshments at -the church's Silver Tea Wednesday afternoon. There was a splendid attendance of members and all enjoyed a most delightful time. Mrs. Myrtle Bettcher of the Willow Valley road entertained the Willow Valley Tuesday club with a delicious luncheon and social time Tuesday afternoon. Several hours were spent at ifancy work. N.
