The ore which occure as a sur. face deposit covering about 100 acres
to a depth of 5 feet was originally
worked for sulphur. Cinnabar finely
disseninated in a gangue of altered
basalt is associated with the sulphur
and minor amounts of opal. The ore
Yas a whole contains only about 2
pounds of quicksliver per ton but as
the cinnabar occure mostly in the
fines, the ore can be enriched by
screening and hand sorting until it
will assay 8 pounds of quicksliver
per ton or better when it is considered furnace ore.
‘Methods of recovering consist of:
(1) Sereening and sorting the lowgrade or to obtain a furnace feed,
(2) Treatment of the ore in a rotary
klin, (3). precipition of the dust
carried from the furnace in the gas
stream, (4) Condensing quicksliver
from the gas stream as (a) highgrade mud and (b) low-grade mud,
. (5) Flotation treatment of low-grade
mud to obtain high-grade concentrates, (6) Drying and_ restoring
high-grade condenser mud and flotation concentrates to make a finshed product. The plant treats about
1,300 tons of ore and _ recoveres
about 9,100 poundsof quicksliver .
