THRILLING SAGA OF
VIRGINIA CITY WILL
BEGIN HERE SUNDAY .
There will be thrills and excitement aplenty at Nevada Theatre
Runday, when the tirring Warner
Bros.’ -film, ‘‘Virginia City’? makes
its local debut. The picture co-stars
Errol Flynn and Miriam Hopkins as
two people whose conflicting missions take them on a_ hazardous
journey across the Painted Desert.
‘Errol Flynn as a tough, two-fisted
adventurer is said to have surpassed
even his success in ‘‘Dodge City,’
anda new, vivid Miriam Hopkins is
revealed in the part of, a dancing,
fighting spitfire.
“Virginia City’’ is an intriguing
story of gold smuggling during the
final stages of the Civil War.
Flynn, a Union Intelligence officer,
,; escapes from a ‘Confederate prison
and learns of a conspiracy to smuggle five million dollars worth of gold
out of Virginia City to aid the South,
but he doesn’t realize that Miriam
Hopkins, with whom he is deeply in
love, is one of the conspirators. The
situation becomes even more excit-;
ing when Humphrey Bogart, as a notorious bandit attacks the Union
garrison outside of Virginia City and
the gold caravan starts its mad dash
during the raid.

SHOWERS FOR CITY
Nevada City has had several days
cloudy weather and-~yesterday the
city was visited by ‘several heavy
showers. Predictions are that tomorrow will be clear and warmer. .
DUELLO THREATENS!
The feud of Leonard lLageson,
agricultural commissioner, and Irving
Long, insurance agent, of Nevada
City, has been one of many months
standing and finally has flared out
into the open.
One morning early in March Lageson came stepping proudly down
Broad street. “I am going to make
that Long come and look at my sweet
peas if I have to go out and get. him”’.
Long wasn’t to be seen for several
days and when he did appear he was
bearing a purple sweet pea in his
coat lapel, and a twinkle in his eye.
It is not quite clear which one raised
the first flowers this year, though
the argument rages.
Long had planted his seed last fall
and carefully tended his pets all seajson. Lageson planted his seed in a
big pot in his office at the court
house in January.
