Hartung Funeral
Services were held :recently in
Grass Valley for little Uelsine Hartung, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Hartung. The family are former Nevada City residents.

City and Miss Skewes of Grass Valley have successfully .passed the
state civil service examinations for
clerical work. The two young ladies
have made a fine showing in their
tests and are now ready for a position in the state.
Newlyweds Given Charivari—
Mr. and Mrs.~ Howard Penrose
were given a wcharivari Wednesday
evening by the Nevada City . Fire
Department. It was the’ regular
meeting night ‘of the fire department and Fire Chief Goyne and the
members. decided to surprise the
young couple. Howard is a prominent members of the department.

the departure of the guests they
were wished many happy years of

MAY POLE DANCE
WAS POPULAR EVENT
The May pole dance and party
that was held Monday evening drew
a large crowd, although there was a
heavy downpour of rain.

the entertainment and exhibited not
only fine talent, but results. of
painstaking instruction. Little Ann
Foley, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. V
V Foley was the big hit of the evening, as she went through a dance
perfectly and received -tumultous
applause.
Dancing was enjoyed for several
hours after the entertainment. The
affair was given as a benefit for the
Red Men’s hall mortgage redemption
fund and a goodly sum was realized.

ENTERTAINS AT CARDS
The beautiful home of Mrs. William Fouyer on lower’ Boulder
street was the scene of a happy
gathering Tuesday afternoon, when
several guests were bidden to enjoy
the afternoon at playing bridge.
Mrs. Ray Davis won highest score
while Mrs. Lou Elkus was low.
The attractive rooms were
decorated in lovely spring flowers.
Delicious home made candy and
dainty refreshments were enjoyed.
