Sudden Demise of an Estimable Lady—Her Life’s History. Mrs. Mary Ann Sterling, owner of a dry goods and millinery store on Commercial street, this city, died unexpectedly Saturday evening of angglment of the liver. Last Fall she had a severe and prolonged attack of the disease which caused her demise, but so far_regained her health that for, sorhe’ time past she has been able to attend ty business as usual. Last week she had a relapse, and rapidly grew worse till death ended her sufferings. Mrs. Sterling was born in Chicago, Illinois, in the year; 1848. Four years later she came to California with her parents who settled in Sacramento. In 1864 she removed to this city. Subsequently her home was in North San Juan for about two years, and in Grass: Valley for a shorter time. She was married in 1866. Fourteen years ago she established the gtore where she has ever since beeti-engaged in business, and by careful and intelligent management she ‘has prospered. The only, relative she leaves in this part of the country is her widowed mother, Mrs. Jane Ludby, who has for so ue time resided with her.Mrs. Sterling was a woman of splendid qualities of head and heart, and had the confidence and warm friendship of those associatéd with her in social and business matters. The funeral will take place at one o’clock this. afternoon from her residence on Sacramento street. — > “Over the Grade.
