May Day Progratn
Thrills Big Audience
One of the most prominent events
of the spring season was the May
Day program and dance prepared by
Mrs. Lyda Talbot and her dancing
elass of over 50 children on May-tst.
All of the children were exceptionally clever in portraying their parts
and the large crowd felt well repaid
in braving the rain to attend.
Among the outstanding leaders
were noted little Mynola Marsh as
queen of the fairies.
Betty Smith, queen of the May on
her beautiful white chiffon throne;
Margaret Smithcamp and Betsy Bennetts in special features; Ruth Curnow, handsome in yellow costume as
California.
The drum corps of the American
Legion, was also an attractive number.
The Ladies of the American Legion Auxiliary had spent a great
deal of time in decorating the hall in
pink flowers and green leaves-in
crepe paper, giving a beautiful and
artistic effect.
This May Day event is considered
by many as the best one ever given
in Nevada City by Mrs. Lyda Talbot.
Mobley’s Seranaders rendered excellent music for several hours after
the music classes had concluded
their program.

City Librarian Raps =
City Dads, Loses Job
MARYSVILLE, May 7—(UP)—
Criticising the ‘boss’ apparently is
serious business these days.
Alleged to have openly voiced her
opinion of the Marysville city council, Miss Maxine Rogers was removed by that body from her position as
city: librarian.
According to Councilman Frank H.
Bartlett, head of the library commission, he called Miss Rogers to his
office and she frankly admitted denouncing the council as a

Generous Hen Lays
Eggs with 3 yolks
WOODLAND, May 7—(UP)—
Even the hens in Yolo county have
taken cognizance of the ‘“‘new deal’
—and deserted the “egg standard.”
For some weeks, according to W.
H. Mitchell,“Winters rancher one of
his white leghorn flock has been
laying. eggs more than twice the ordinary size. One egg, he said, measured eight and one-half inches in
circumference and had three yolks.
And, despite its accomplishment,
the hen displays a rare quality of
modesty, for, said Mitchell, all -effects on his part to. discover the gifted fowl have proved in vain.
