All of the children were exceptionally clever in portraying their parts and the large crowd felt well repaid in braving the rain to attend. Among the outstanding leaders were noted little Mynola Marsh as queen of the fairies. Betty Smith, queen of the May on her beautiful white chiffon throne; Margaret Smithcamp and Betsy Bennetts in special features; Ruth Curnow, handsome in yellow costume as California. The drum corps of the American Legion, was also an attractive number. The Ladies of the American Legion Auxiliary had spent a great deal of time in decorating the hall in pink flowers and green leaves-in crepe paper, giving a beautiful and artistic effect. This May Day event is considered by many as the best one ever given in Nevada City by Mrs. Lyda Talbot.
