For Mrs. Antone Giani
Many relatives and friends of Mrs.

Mrs. Charles Giani, daughter-inlaw, who resides on. Sacramento

which was beautifully decorated and
was the centerpiece for a delicious
banquet. After enjoying the feast the

friends spent the remaining hours of .
the evening in jojous dancing to beautiful Italian musie furnished by
Louis Maphidini on his accordian.
All of Mrs. Giani’s children, were
present and are, Mrs. Frank. Romiti

NOTE: Edward Berwick, for
many years a member and ieader of the Commonwealth Club
of San Francisco, one of the
most outspoken opponents of
war and one of the most cogent
reasoners in support of peace
and fairplay among nations, has
addressed the following letter to
the Nevada City Nugget. Frank
Simonds, writer on current
European tendencies, seems to
think Europe is rapidly approaching another war cataclysm. Some observers place
war at not more than two years
away. It behooves every -citizen
to think carefully over this out‘look and make up his’ or her
mind, now, whether under any
conditions except physical invasion by an enémy, this country
should participate in another
war. Mr.-Berwick’s letter follows:

Conscious of being victimized by

Germany is naturally resentful at
the terms of that treaty, forced on
their people by the starvation of German women and children by five

And so today war talk again prevails. But since 1918 war fashions
have changed. No more armed men
