Cooper passed away ®arly Monday morning from pneumonia, from which he had been ill enly a few days, He was born in Palmyra, N, Jj December 6, 1877, coming to Califormia when a young man. Mr. Cooper enlisted in the United States Marine corps and saw service in the Spanish-American war being} detailed at Vallejo. He was given an honorable discharge from Mare Island on account of rheumatism which disqualified him from active duty. » He had lived in Nevada City about five years and worked at his trade of , painter and paper hanger, and was} steadily employed in this city ana Alleghany. He was of a reserved nature,.but! had many friends ‘and was respectea aS a good citizen and a true friend.
