The California excise tax assessments on beer and wine continued for the nineteenth consecutive month =§ to show an increase over those of the corresponding month of the preceding. year, according to the State Board of Equalization, who today announced assessments of $173,331.12 for the month of October. The increase of $9,342.81 overi#ihe assessments for October 1935, represents a gain of 12.6 per cent. The seasonal nature of beer and wine sales is clearly shown by a comparison of the number of 5ilons of beer and wine sold in October with the number of gallons sold in the preceding month. The increase in wine sales from 1,725,716 gallons, for September to 2,0%0,036 gallons. for October was far outweighed by the decrease in beer sales from September to October of 8,459,245 to 6,488,605% gallons.
