Dan Miles allows he’s swimming right in style these days.
Dan’s always made a point of
finishing up whatever food was
put before him. “Don’t make

From where I sit, this new
style in eating may lead to moderation, and moderation has
never hurt anybody.

Car Sharing
Is On Decline :
(Car, sharing is declining and the
slackening of effort is a serious blow
to the war time conservation of cars
and tires reports the California state
automobile association. Citing figures from the Highway Traffic Advisory Committee to the War Department, the motorists organization
states:
“The apparent: slackening of car
sharing efforts is a serious blow to
the conservation movement inasmuch
as voluntry cooperation has greatly
augmented enforced compliance with
ear sharing requirements and thus
rendered stricter enforcement measures unnecessary.’
It is pointed out that the car sharing had not reached a_ saturation
poiht and that when more than fifty
per cent of all drivers in the urban
general class still ride alone, ‘‘there
is obviously room for improvement.”

Gas Tax Yields Only
Down 514 ‘Per CentSACRAMPENTO, Oct. 14.—Continuing the steady upward trend registered since the 40 per cent decline of
December when rationing became effective, California gasoline ,
taxes for August were only 5.5 per .
cent less than those for the same}
month of 1942.
The State Board of Equalization .
made this revelation here today on
tribution of 155,018,160 gallons of!
motor vehicle fuels during August.
This contrasts with the tax of $4,1921,324 assessed for the same month
ja year ago on 164,044,128 gallons, .
. indicating that the current figure
!marks a decline of only $270,779 in
