PLACED COUNTY RECORD Fred DeWein has _ located two quartz claims in the Washington mining district the past week and placed the same on record. HORSE SHOE PITCHING IS FOR SUCCESSFUL SEASON Thelocal horseshoe experts have surviyed.the «first week of the indoor lodge tournament, some having slipped a little from last year’s top form, some holding up in -good shape, and some having weathered their contests safely but still shivering from chose calls. . The Native Son team in the first contest of the season nabbed two out ; of three games with the Qdd Fel. lows, and Court Garfield’s pitchers took the odd game of the series from their brother Foresters of Court Christoforo Columbo, The games between the two Foresters lodges were easily. the most interesting of the week’s play. Some of the inexperienced players of Court Christoforo Columbo showed some sensational class in their throwing and opinions seemed to 'agree that it was only the experience of Court Garfield’s pitchers that turned the tide toward them. Max Solaro and Baptiste Tocolini in their first tournament games turned ;in scores including six and five ring“ers respectively while Muscardini, ;Giani and Gregori each circled the \peg twice. For Court Garfield, Cap. Tony Rore and Charles Sharp slipped across five ringers apiece, and Leonard, and Foote each _ corraled two. Cary Arbogast, whose Odd Fellow’s team will meet the Christopher Columbo pitchers this coming week, apparently is not awed by the showing made _ by the new en‘trants. He pointed to the fact’ that’ Columbus Day occurred last week and that either the famous namesake of the Columbo pitchers was silent‘ly on the job or that the’ hurlers themselves were inspired by recollecting the valiant deeds of the great head of steam for the race.” After hearing these opinions we thought we would ascertain Tony ' Rore’s feelings about the new team. He said, “I almost had heart failure when I saw those boys throwing _ those ringers, and they had a.lot of substitutes ready on the bench, too. . You would think we were bush ‘leaguefs toa see those fellows show, ing us how to pitch. It we could yp Beas them, I am not much afraid ‘of the Native Sons winning from us this year.’’ ISENSEES ENTERTAIN FACULTY PROFS Principal and Mrs. Arthur F. GENERAL MINING SITUATION NEVADA SHRRA CITY. mixiNc i COUNTY LOOKING UP IN FINE SHAPE A general survey of the. gold mining situation in Nevada county shows the industry to be reestablishing itself’ in -wonderful shape and the old time prosperity evident again after a long lapse of time dating stamp ready for operations at different points and many hundred men are now engaged.in development work on various properties once operated, and on promising prospects. With over 200 stamps dropping in this district already and da county offers the livest guld min.ing camp in California today and the coming year will show much activity. New capital is coming in seeking properties and there is an active demand for properties somewhat developed and with sufficient equipment to get under way on terms that will offer protection to capital as well as the owners. The’ property owner today who demands an exhorbitant price for his property, wants excessive cash payment and numer: ous restrictions will be out of luck Bonding and leasing with purchase option is the approved fashion in taking over properties and with terms providing for continuous development the mine owner is taking no unusual chances. Idaho Maryland Looks To Be Big Producer The development of the _ big strike made on the Idaho Maryland the past year and opened up already for a distance of 500 feet on the 1900 level, indicates clearly that there is a large mineral zone in this famous property that is virgin territory and blasts the old fallacy _handle power that the early day miner bled all! the.ore.of: the properties. Plans for enlarging the milling facilities are under way and the opening up of the Brunswick shaft for the central operations of the company is expected for the coming year, The leasers working in this property on one block of ground are milling ore that is running in excess of $14 per ton mill run, With the repairs to the frame and the~— shaft pleted and the shaft retimbered to the -1000 level, underground work is being resumed and the work on the 1900 will be prosecuted with vigor headcollar comBoundary and Golden Center In a Possible Merger With the Boundary mine interests taking a lease on the Golden Center and the possibility of opening up this property through the Peabody workings should make a new era in the Grass Valley district which looks to be in for greatly enlarged activity. The Boundary inrterests have developed a real producer in the Brock property and have shown production during the ‘past year. The mill was increased to ten stamps and new pumping facilities installed. The Golden Center during its comparatively brief existence showed good production. Murchie Strike Shows Good Milling Ore The strike made on the Murchie property the past few weeks on the 1000 level is continuing exceptionally well. as drifting continues on the
shoot. Values on the plates in the 20 stamp mill have stepped up lively with the milling of the new ore. Development work is keeping well ahead of the extraction and as soon as the water can be _ handled satisfactorily on the 1150 drifting operations will be resumed on that’ ‘evel. The mill is pounding steadily long. North Star Sinking : Winze Below 8650 A winze on the’ recent ore shoot picked up is being sunk below the 3650 level atthe North Star and will be sunk 100 feet to determine . the extent of the shoot. Mchawk Cuis Shaft ‘shrough Old Drift Work of cuiting the’ timbering through the old drift encountered in che new shaft being sunk at the Mo hawk. property !s proceeding slowly. The old workings are full of mud ané muck which has made timbering .lifficult. but it is not expected that the work will be long delayed. The \.—.e] ivas run at water level. \ GOING AHEAD FINE WAY With two payments already made on the bond and lease held Monarch mine at Sierra City with possibilities of a large merger of properties in that field, things.in. minng are lookng brght in that section. The Minarch is being operated by Dutton and Thompson under the . corporate name of the Monarch Al--Conda Mining Company Los An ' geles. on the The Cornish pumping rig will handle the small amount of water satisfactorily as soon as the drift has been. passed. Le Compton Mine Wil Attempt Unwatering The LeCompton mine which was filled up with water due ‘to the NID will doubtless be pumped out again with the close of the irrigation season and the cessation of water in the ditch. It is expected that the canal will be concreted in the vicinity of the property to avoid future flooding problems. and ol . E. L.
