‘comes from practically
every federal fund for almost every
conceivable purpose, including government road projects, forest service
trail improvement and conservation
funds; ‘national park development,
and ascore of other minor projects.
In other words,:this amazingly energetie young man succeeded in getting a congressional finger in every
pie that was cut—and a generous
slice of federal melon for his district.
Viewed in the light of comparison, an idea of what this record
means may be gleaned in the statistics which show that this total of
appropriation for our district is
more than double the total of all appropriations for this district for the
iast ten years. El Dorado. county
alone received $75,000 for highway

Englebright distinctly “belongs” in
his place and very positively ‘‘fits”’
the shoes to ,which he has fallen
heir. This is proven by the manner
in which he took a leading place
among other California Congressmen,
although he is the youngest, in
years as well as in service, from this
state. After launching and leading
his California ‘congressional associates in a fight for recognition in
highway appropriatiuns, resulting in
securing one million and a half dolfor California, out of a total of
seven and a half millions for the nation (20 per cent) he-.was‘not satisfied until he had assured his own
district approximately 20 per.cent of
, the total appropriation for the state.
'And this in the face of the greatest
i seramble ever witnessed for high way
lars
_. funds in this state.
i
Still he is far from satisfied with
the way things are going. Forest conservation and mining are dear to his
heart. He has made a study of the
. public domain problem which places
,; him high in the ranks of authorities
in the lower house on the subject.
With.a group og colleagues which he
‘has organized, . mostly representa‘tives. of other western states, he is
