Opening day for Penney
Company’s new modernized store in
Grass Valley has been postponed
from October 24 to October 31, next
Thursday. At the last moment it was
found impossible to be ready in
time.
The new store is the old Clinch
Mercantile store, owned for many
years by the Penney company, enlarged, reconstructed and thoroughly modernized, with a commodious
mezzanine, a great roomy. basement
and stairs of easy gradient leading
to them from the huge merchandise
room om the street level. An entire
mew front brings the line of the
building to the sidewalk line. The
old pillared corridor in front where
so much room was wasted, has been
abolished. One store room on the}south has been leased for. a_ long
term of years to a chain five-and-ten
corporatien.
The rear walls nave been thrust
back many feet giving an thousands
of square feet in added floor space,
