maples are at ‘their peak of fall beauty. Artists come from
down below to paint them. Nevada City’s maples are one of the
town’s finest assets.
Why don’t we do what a business man would do?
When a business man has exceptional assets, does he just
say, “That's great’, and sit back and relax? Obviously not.
The suggestion here is this: Let’s be business-like about
increasing the charm of our city. Let’s capitalize on our present assets by increasing them.
If a couple of dozen flaming red sugar maples are good,
a hundred are a lot better. If we had a hundred bursting into
a symphony of color at the same time every fall, Nevada City
might be well on the way to fame and fortune.
So here's the suggestion, civic ‘organizations, garden
clubs and community leaders. When Luther Burbank’s birth«day, Arbor Day, rolls around next March 7, let’s do justice
‘to the genius-of growing things and get a movement under
way to plant.a 100 sugar maples in Nevada City.
