Forms are up for a 24x37 foot cement building which it is understood will be the office, with a sales and store room in the rear. The latter will face Main street on the northeast side of the lot. R. Corcoran is the contractor. TAX BILLS MAILED County Treasuier \Frank Steele and assistant, Miss Elma Hecker, are mailing duplicate tax ‘bills to 5,156 people, one to every property owner in Nevada county. A number of these bills; are sent out of the county, some going to England. Albert H. Hamilton has returned from Sierra Valley where he spent the summer with the Forest Service. ditions, and the Burton C. Lund log on Mosquito and Oregom Creeks, purchased by Wm. Schorn of Sacramento. (Mrs. Anna ‘F. Grove maintains a summer home, recently built in town, and J. M. MacDonald of Alameda maintains such a home in Oak Valley. Mr. Richard’ R. Pfiffer who reeently acquired the old Locey property on Jackson street has built a spacious log home creditable 'fo the community. Mr. Pfiffer cut his own logs, peeled them, hauled them and built the house practically all by himself. It -has large proportions and will house his family of six. J. E. Pauly recently built a new front porch on his home in Main street. Mrs. Rachael M. Labadie proprietor of the Hotel Francis recently had a complete new iron roof installed on her hotel. The work was done by Lee Bullington, local carpenter and contractor. He traced the life of Alfred Landon from his college days to his present eminent position. He said the Kansas Governor had learned by practical experience what it was to meet payrolls every week of every month year after year, because Landon had no silver spoon placed in his mouth at birth, and had to make his own way. As a lawyer, as an oil man, as an office hodider, he always displayed the same trait. of not spending a dollar until he had it in hand, and the balance of the budget of Kansas shows what can be done by a man who has practiced that virtue.
