TAX BILLS MAILED
County Treasuier \Frank Steele
and assistant, Miss Elma Hecker,
are mailing duplicate tax ‘bills to
5,156 people, one to every property
owner in Nevada county. A number
of these bills; are sent out of the
county, some going to England.

from Sierra Valley where he spent
the summer with the Forest Service.

Mr. Richard’ R. Pfiffer who reeently acquired the old Locey property on Jackson street has built a
spacious log home creditable 'fo the
community. Mr. Pfiffer cut his own
logs, peeled them, hauled them and
built the house practically all by
himself. It -has large proportions
and will house his family of six.
J. E. Pauly recently built a new
front porch on his home in Main
street.
Mrs. Rachael M. Labadie proprietor of the Hotel Francis recently had
a complete new iron roof installed
on her hotel. The work was done by
Lee Bullington, local carpenter and
contractor.
Other improvements . are underway all of which permits Camptonville to keep her title, ‘‘the cleanest
town in the mountains,”

He traced the life of Alfred Landon from his college days to his present eminent position. He said the
Kansas Governor had learned by
practical experience what it was to
meet payrolls every week of every
month year after year, because Landon had no silver spoon placed in
his mouth at birth, and had to make
his own way. As a lawyer, as an oil
man, as an office hodider, he always
displayed the same trait. of not
spending a dollar until he had it in
hand, and the balance of the budget
of Kansas shows what can be done
by a man who has practiced that virtue.
As an example of the patriotism of
the Republican presidential candidate, Mr. Requa quoted from a conversation he ‘had with him recently
in which Governor Landon said:
